Welcome the Festive Season with Frostivus 2024!

Every 12 months as the year draws to a close, Dota 2 enters a festive season to mimic how players feel. The festive season includes a bunch of cosmetic upgrades, some jolly game modes, and more freebies for players to celebrate. This year, Frostivus 2024 returns with each hero wearing the stylish Frostivus hat.

Spirit of Frostivus Ability

The Frostivus hat makes your hero look cool. But there’s more to the hat this year than just making your hero look great. You can steal hats from enemy heroes and get them as gifts from your allies with a new ability.

This new ‘Spirit of Frostivus’ ability is not something new but was previously limited to just killing opponent heroes, Tormentor or Roshan.

Frostivus Forge

The Frostivus Forge brings back the Frostivus spirit and there’s a lot of utility for your favorite in-game cosmetics now. You can use the Frostivus Forge to craft various rewards in the game.

There are four elements - or Festive Infusions - in the game during Frostivus 2024. The four Festive Infusions are as follows:

  • Crystallized Joy
  • Essence of Friendship
  • Concentrated Whimsy
  • Festive Spirit

Dota 2 players can use these festive infusions to craft various rewards. The Tier 1 rewards require 20 Concentrated Whimsies and 20 Festive Spirits to craft the rewards. There are two types of Tier 1 rewards that you can choose.

Higher-tier rewards require you to have crafted the lower-tier reward in order to be unlocked.

  • Tier 2 Reward: Craft 3 Tier 1 Rewards
  • Tier 3 Reward: Craft 3 Tier 2 Rewards
  • Crownfall (Tier 4) Reward: Craft 2 Tier 3 Rewards.

Winter 2024 Heroes’ Hoard

What’s a Dota 2 event without an accompanying treasure box. Well, the Frostivus 2024 event brings the Winter 2024 Heroes’ Hoard - a treasure box that comes with 17 item sets for several heroes.

There are new taunts, a pet wolf a Windranger Arcana. Dota 2 players can use their Crownfall coins to purchase the Winter 2024 Heroes’ Hoard.

End-of-Year Ban Wave

Smurfing has been a persistent issue in Dota 2 and Valve has taken the end-of-the-year update to clean things up a bit. There have been 65,694 smurf account bans that Valve has taken action against this week.

There has also been strict action against high-MMR players who often result in toxic traits such as trading wins, griefing, exploiting bugs and more. Valve intends to keep the spirit of the game intact with these moves and let’s hope that these steps ensure a better experience for all players.
