Fnatic are relegated to Divison 2 after failing to win a single series in their first 6 games.
After multiple weeks of winning games 2-0 and dominating the SEA scene, Execration have finally secured their invitation to the Lima Major. The Lima Major is the first Dota 2 Major of 2023 and will kick off on February 22 in Peru. Execration’s victory, however, is bad news for Fnatic fans as the London-based org is now relegated to Division 2.
We want to aim for a higher placement at the Majors.
Dominant performance throughout SEA DPC
Execration started their first match of the DPC with a 2-0 victory over Talon Esports in the DPC opener match. The dominant nature of that victory was replicated multiple times throughout the rest of the season including 2-0 victories in all but one match before their win over Fnatic. The BDz-led team lost to Geek Fam in Week 2, their only loss of the season.
The majority of the Execration roster has not changed from last year. The team changed one player when it replaced Ralph "RR" Peñano with Juan "BDz" Manalo, who is also the captain of the team. BDz previously played for TNC Predator as a position 4 player.
Execration has not been averse to experimenting with different hero picks through the season. We’ve seen the team pick up Broodmother, Batrider, Primal Beast, and many more. There were a few heroes that saw regular picks on the side of Execration with Marci being one of the most-picked heroes through the season.
I would say the biggest factor for us was March. He was the switch for the team.
The team’s performance has varied throughout the season. Sometimes they put up very aggressive gameplay, one that is confusing for the opponent. Other times, they would have a very systematic approach to the game. When asked on the broadcast for the reason behind these wild differences, Carlo mentioned March, their coach, as the biggest factor.
The Lima Major
The Lima Major is the first Dota 2 Major of 2023. Even though the excitement is at an all-time high for the return of Majors, there are fears the unrest in Peru might affect the event.
Peru has been in a state of unrest for a few weeks now, with the government even blocking access to the world-famous Machu Pichu indefinitely. If the protests continue and intensify, there are some fears it might impact the status of the Major.
4D Esports' COO has continued to stress the Major will continue as planned. The Lima Major will start on February 22 and will continue till March 3. With 18 teams and a $500,000 prize pool, the Major will also have 1,900 DPC points on offer.
