A stand-in Dota 2 player for Mosquito Clan fell asleep during the Game 1 draft against OG. Here’s what happened at the FISSURE Special.

The FISSURE Special tournament for Dota 2 players kicked off on April 5. All of the teams are now duking it out in the group stage. However, one team, in particular, went 0-2 because a player on their squad fell asleep during the drafting stage. Here's what happened to that Mosquito Clan versus OG match involving David "Parker" Nicho Flores.

Dota 2 player falls asleep in esports tournament

On April 7, the official Mosquito Clan account on X revealed the reasoning behind the team's 0-2 score against OG. The team had a technical defeat because stand-in player Parker fell asleep.

"The match against OG never happened," the account stated. Parker… fell asleep during the draft! OG takes the 2:0 win by default."

According to a post by user echoseiba on the Dota 2 subreddit, Mosquito Clan called for the match to end after a 10-minute pause and 30 seconds after creeps had spawned. The user added that Mosquito Clan had wanted to replace Parker with Roman "RAMZES666" Kushnarev. However, that request was denied since Parker was already playing as a substitute.

The match took place at around 5 a.m. local time in Peru, and Mosquito Clan acknowledged this in a reply to the post. This reply also noted Parker's exhaustion.

"First of all, thank you to Parker for stepping in and playing as a stand-in for us," the account stated. "Secondly, by the time of the match against OG, it was already around 5 [a.m.] in Peru, and Parker wasn’t prepared in advance to play Dota all night. Unfortunately, at the most crucial moment, he simply didn’t have the energy to finish the game — the human factor is always unpredictable."

The esports organization then apologized to the fans and the FISSURE Special organizers, ending with the promise to return with a fully-rested lineup.

Parker, now with Team Secret, joined the FISSURE Special tournament as a stand-in player for Yheremi "payk" Arroyo. According to the official FISSURE account on X, "Parker will play the first three games instead of Payk" as well.

Mosquito Clan's next match will be against L1GA TEAM. Which team will reach the playoffs? Only time will tell. As the Mosquito Clan account put it, "The main thing is not to fall asleep."
