The Spring Forward patch for Dota 2 brings plenty of quality-of-life changes and hero updates.
Valve has rolled out a huge update for Dota 2 in the form of Patch 7.39 on May 21. The patch, titled "Spring Forward", includes a myriad of updates and changes to Dota with most focused on spring cleaning!

Quality-of-life improvements; team items, communication, and more
The spring updates for Dota 2 have historically been known as patches for bug fixing and "spring cleaning." Patch 7.39 is no different.
Valve has done a general sweep of the game, fixing many outlying issues including some glitches that have been present in the MOBA for over a decade. On top of this, new features designed to make the game more accessible have been added.
The ping wheel now resembles that of League of Legends: players can now select from a multitude of pings with player hero icons indicating who's saying what. A new Team Items submenu will appear when buying items showing particular item purchases made by teammates — meaning no more double Mekanisms or Urns.
An expanded current gold and buyback amount breakdown, a minimap route display, clearer status labels like "Stunned" or "Silenced," and improved voice chat quality all make for a better experience in ranked or general play.
Valve has also rolled out navigatable settings menus with search bars so you can find the setting you need faster, customizable in-game notifications for when teammates buy items or pickup talents, and several other tweaks to make Dota just that much better.
Ability Draft refresh with Hero Drafting included
Ability Draft is getting a fresh pass with patch 7.39 with mass bug fixes and ability interaction updates. With this, the game mode is getting one of it's biggest updates in some time in the form of Hero Drafting.
You'll now be able to select which hero you want to play as part of your draft. You'll be able to pick a corresponding hero at any time during the normal draft phase. What's more important to you: landing that critical ability combo, or ensuring you get that awesome hero and Facet setup? Now you can choose!
Each hero card will display the available Facets so you'll know what you're getting yourself into with each hero pick. Now get out there and draft an awesome combo!

Valve has introduced 16 new hero sets for those looking at a spring revamp for their favorite heroes! The Heroes' Hoard is available in the Spring 2025 Treasure with sets for Lion, Huskar, and Necrophos up for grabs.

General, Game Modes
- You can now queue for a game while spectating.
- Re-enabled the Teammates tab under profile match history.
- Games that are safe to leave no longer make you wait 5 seconds before you can abandon.
- Turbo AFK timer decreased from 5 to 3 minutes.
- Scoreboard now shows Aghanim’s Scepter and Shard status for teammates and enemies (updating while they are in vision).
- Updated the Attack Damage icon in the Breakdowns section of the scoreboard which also indicates if the hero is Melee or Ranged.
- Pinging an enemy Aegis now shows the time remaining.
- Mousing over abilities with long cast ranges now shows the cast range on the minimap.
- Battle Report animations can now be skipped by clicking.
- Added a spectator view that shows the facets of all heroes.
- Added a new global sound effect when Tormentor dies.
- When right-clicking an invulnerable outpost, move to it instead of doing nothing.
- "Auto-Select Summoned Units" option no longer selects Roshan’s Banner, Broodmother’s Webs, Wraith King’s skeletons, Techies’ Mines, and Undying Tombstone.
- The top bar day/night icon now shows Phoenix, Luna, and Night Stalker during their ultimate.
- Added a new button to play minigames that’s visible while queuing for a game.

The Evil Eye debuff duration lingers up to twice the elapsed Sinister Gaze channel duration. Monkey King | New Facet: Changing of the Guard (replacing Wukong's Faithful) Wukong's Command - While Wukong's Command is active, Monkey King gains a Changing of the Guard ability which allows him to transform into any one of his soldiers. Upon cast, Monkey King takes the place of the soldier closest to the target location for 1.5 seconds and leaves another one in his stead. Nature's Prophet | Attack range decreased from 620 to 600. Facet: Soothing Saplings Sprout - Healing mechanic reworked. Now enchants all trees in a 1200 AoE around the Sprout. Each enchanted tree emits a 175 radius healing aura. No longer heals buildings. - Heal per second increased from 10/20/30/40 to 14/26/38/50. Level 15 Talent: 100 Teleportation Barrier replaced with 30% Sprout Heal Per Second. Spirit Breaker | Reworked Ability: Planar Pocket - Now is a unit-targeted ability. Barathrum gains 75% magic resistance and distorts reality around the selected hero, making any unit-targeted spells cast by enemy heroes on the target to get redirected towards Spirit Breaker. Can be cast on both allied and enemy heroes, but only spells cast by enemies of Spirit Breaker will be redirected. Cast Range: 700. - Io's Tether is the only exception that will ignore this effect. - Redirected spells are not considered as reflected. Venomancer | Reworked Facet: Plague Carrier Innate: Septic Shock - Allows Plague Wards to deal Septic Shock damage based on their damage. Venomous Gale - When Venomous Gale impacts enemy heroes, two Plague Wards are created around them based on the current level of Plague Ward. Innate Septic Shock - Aghanim's Scepter no longer gives Plague Wards the ability to deal Septic Shock damage (moved to Plague Carrier facet). - Aghanim's Scepter Base Damage per debuff increased from 20% to 25%. Plague Ward - Ward HP increased from 120/230/340/450 to 150/250/350/450. - Gold Bounty rescaled from 15/17/19/21 to 10/14/18/22. Witch Doctor | New Facet: Malpractice (replacing Headhunter) Maledict - When an enemy dies while under effect of Maledict, 75% of what the next burst damage amount would be is dealt to all enemies in 800 units. This effect works even if the enemy dies to the last burst of damage. Paralyzing Cask - No longer deals bonus damage to creeps. - Base Damage increased from 50 to 55/70/85/100. - Now deals 20 more damage per bounce by default. - Bounces rescaled from 2/4/6/8 to 3/4/5/6.. |
