We wanted a new patch, now we’ve had two in a week, as the 7.33b Dota 2 patch drops in the middle of the night.
With just nine hours to go before the start of the Berlin Major, 7.33b has hit Dota 2, tweaking some of the more over-powered things from the huge 7.33 patch, and generally balancing things out.
The patch hit on Tuesday night (18:00 p.m. PT, April 25), while doubtless most of the Berlin Major players are deep asleep. I mean, we hope they’re asleep — the patch released at around 03: 00 a.m. local time for teams in Germany for the major. But then again they are degenerate gamers, so perhaps they’re still awake pubbing.
7.33b Patch Summary
Item changes
The 7.33b patch hit a number of heroes and items. The things we were most excited to see affect items were as follows:
- Blood Grenade is now stackable up to 3
- Disperser got a nerf to mean it can be dispelled
- Faded Broach got a heavy nerf to its bonus mana, mana bonus decreased from +200 to +125
- Vindicator’s Axe got a big buff, increasing its attack speed bonus and Vengeance Armor bonus
Map changes
- Twin Gates travel increased by 1 second
- Tormentor’s Reflect damage now doesn’t count illusions.
- Tormentors' Unyielding Shield base barrier amount now increases by 200 every time they respawn
- Night Bonus Movement Speed is now also disabled when a hero damages an enemy-controlled unit

Hero changes
Beastmaster’s broken Drums of Slom didn’t get fixed, and Muerta is still busted. Instead, Phantom Lancer got some heavy nerfs, as did Riki, Spirit Breaker, and Venomancer. Clearly, the target of the nerfs this time were any hero that was fun to play.
But at least Vengeful Spirit got buffed. It makes sense. You put her in the trailer after all, you can’t not buff her! Her base stats were increased so she’s not a creep in lane anymore, and the mana cost on Magic Miss was reduced. Which is good, because for a spell that’s so similar to Wraith King’s stun, it was insane that it cost more Mana at almost every level.

Will the Dota 2 7.33b patch affect the Berlin Major?
The Dota 2 patch 7.33b was dropped bizarrely close to the Major, but we don’t think it will push anything teams were using out of the meta, except maybe Phantom Lancer and Bristleback. Still, the core idea behind most of these heroes is the same, but their slightly adjusted numbers might be enough to scare teams off. Overall, we don’t think this will affect the Major, even if it is less than half a day away.
