The Defender’s gates are a new feature in Dota 2. They allow you to pass through but will prevent enemy units from chasing after you.
Defender’s gates are a new addition to Dota 2 with the 7.33 patch update. There’s a lot happening in two of the least-used corners of the map and we’re here to explain exactly what.
The Dota 2 map is now significantly bigger - 40% more than the previous version. A big reason for this change is the changes to Roshan’s pit(s). We now have two spawn locations for Roshan on opposite corners of the map. While these locations solve one of the age-old problems plaguing Dota 2, they are also quite far apart from each other.
What are Defender’s Gate in Dota 2?
Defender’s gate acts like a backdoor to your base. It allows friendly units in while preventing enemies from passing through.
Defender’s Gate combines the sparkly high fantasy of Dota with the practicality of doors on your house that you can lock when you go to the grocery store to destroy its Ancient. It’s a back door to your base with a handy force field that lets your team through and keeps the enemy team out. While the enemy is assaulting the front, you can sneak in and out through the back.
The Defender’s gates add another element of maneuverability to Dota 2 allowing players to juke their opponents.

Where are the Defender’s Gate Located in Dota 2?
The Defender’s gates are located on opposite ends of the map near each team’s base. For the Radiant team, the Defender’s gate is located near the top lane. The Dire has it near the bot lane.
The Defender’s gates are also useful when it comes to trying to defend against a much-stronger opponent. Quite often, a team might find itself trapped inside the base and the Defender’s gate route is an additional way to get out of base.
What’s more, if the enemy chases you, they cannot come after you inside the base. However, unfriendly spells can still be cast across the gate, so be careful.
