A Sweet Escape: HellRaisers survive elimination scare at the Lima Major

HellRaisers live to fight another day.

The Lima Major 2023 group stage is over, and the playoffs bracket is set.

The group stage was filled with excitement, surprises, and gruelling games that kept the fans glued to their screen. However, without a doubt, Group B takes the cake for being the most exciting one. It had everything a fan could ever ask for and kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

While Team Liquid, Entity, and Shopify Rebellion had secured their upper bracket spots for the Lima Major Playoffs, the last two tie-breaker series had everything at stake -- fight for the last upper bracket spot and a fight for survival.

HellRaisers survive through the skin of their teeth

The first tie-breaker series between beastcoast and Team Aster was for determining the final upper bracket spot. Team Aster bested beastcoast in a closely-contested three-game series, thus sending the South Americans to the lower bracket. However, more emotions were at stake in the second tie-breaker series between HellRaisers and Geek Slate.

It all boiled down to one series -- the survival of the fittest. A victory would mean that either Eastern Europe or Southeast Asia would have a second representative at the Lima Major Playoffs. Ultimately, HellRaisers held their ground and survived the eliminator with a clean 2-0 victory over Geek Slate.

The series was one-sided, with HR having the upper hand throughout the series, while Geek Slate was left reeling to find answers. HR lives to fight another day and starts from the lower bracket, whereas Geek Slate bid adieu to their journey at the Lima Major. Geek Slate wins no prize money or Dota Pro Circuit points as they finish in 13th-14th place.
