5 things we love about Dota 2 patch 7.39 Ability Draft

You can now play mini-games while you queue Ability Draft in Dota 2?!

The Dota 2 7.39 patch is here, but leave hero changes for the boring rank players: Ability Draft is the future, baby! Valve has been pushing a more fun-focused experience for Dota 2 since they removed the Battle Pass. First, we got the Crownfall event, and now they have revisited the forgotten Ability Draft.

This game mode allows players to build their heroes with custom abilities from a random pool of options. But with the past patches and map changes, Ability Draft was left outdated. The heroes had no facets, and every small change to the game filled this mode with bugs.

However, Ability Draft is facing a new issue: there's no player base for it anymore. We want to queue into the game and find people to play with shed some light on some cool changes made to it, so here are our top five favorite things about the new Ability Draft!

#1: The 7.39 patch added minigames while you queue for an Ability Draft game!

This has to be the most unexpected but cool addition to the game. Unfortunately, the long queue times can scare some players from trying the AD mode.

But we all loved the Crownfall minigames! With the update, you can replay them as much as you want during queue time. Just like last time, you can compete with your friend list for the first-place title on the scoreboard.

#2: New combo opportunities!

Now that all heroes are updated, some interactions in Ability Draft after patch 7.39 are broken in a fun way. You can combine them with facets, adding an interesting component to wisely choosing your vessel (or the hero you will play).

Here, you can find two fun suggestions.

#3: Pick your facets

As previously mentioned, selecting your hero during the spell draft phase now includes an interesting component: you will also get random facet cards to choose from for the rest of the game. Be sure to read them quickly so you can build your hero around this new buff during the strategy time!

#4: Improved strategy phase interface

You know how "food enters through the eyes"? Well, we showed you how the new strategy phase has some small but very useful changes. The facet card display is clean, and the new way items are arranged in categories makes the decision-making process a lot easier while playing Ability Draft with the 7.39 patch changes.

#5: No more bugs (apparently) while playing Ability Draft after the patch 7.39

Valve made a new promise: they won't let AD be consumed by bugs anymore. The main issue with this game mode was the lack of updates every time a new patch was released. In their words, "we've updated the under-the-hood systems to make future gameplay updates smoother (and less likely to break when Dota itself changes)."

It's refreshing to see Valve taking care of their Ability Draft mode! This is a bold move to re-introduce the community to new ways of enjoying Dota 2, and we hope it works for more players to come and try it.
