With the Lunar New Year upon us, Diablo IV celebrates with the Lunar Awakening event. It comes with a huge gameplay twist.

Every game has its own take on the Lunar New Year, with some kind of event that rewards the players. Diablo IV (D4) may be losing the war to Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) on some fronts, but that has not stopped them from putting out a new season recently. Alongside this, from Feb. 4, the Lunar Awakening event will begin in-game, giving everyone the chance at some fantastic rewards – and a change up to the gameplay, too.

Shrines reworked for Lunar Awakening

While the Lunar Awakening event will see the usual cosmetic rewards earned via a seasonal reputation, Ancestral Favor, there is something far more interesting which is exciting. Although usually events are mainly cosmetic, with a few bits and pieces thrown in dealing with gameplay, this one is different. Lunar Awakening’s reputation features ten levels or tiers, with cosmetics, a mount, and event a Resplendent Spark given out at the pinnacle of the journey.

However, the biggest gameplay twist for the event comes with Lunar Shrines, which gives every shrine in Sanctuary a massive buff. From extra damage to damage reflection, these shrines come with the bonus of a 100% experience bonus while active.

These Lunar Shrine effects could be brutal, especially for pit-pushing or simply farming, depending on whether or not you're lucky enough to find the right one at the right time. The list of each shrine and their new buffs is as follows:

  • Artillery Shrine – Casts have a chance to summon a holy bomb.
  • Blast Wave Shrine – Each explosion summons a cluster bombardment.
  • Channeling Shrine- Increased attack speed and has a chance to reset cooldowns.
  • Conduit Shrine – Summons frequent, powerful, shocking strikes.
  • Greed Shrine – Has a chance to summon a Treasure Goblin. While the Shrine is active, kills summon a Treasure Goblin.
  • Lethal Shrine – Chance to instantly execute a struck monster, fearing surrounding monsters (includes Elites, but excludes Bosses and other Players).
  • Protection Shrine – You reflect all incoming damage. Damage reflected scales with Level and Difficulty.

D4’s Lunar Awakening event goes live on Feb. 4 and will run through to Feb. 18. It is likely that this event will additively stack with the currently ongoing Season 7 Headhunts – meaning that farming for Fugitive Heads and Rot could become a breeze.
