What happens to seasonal characters Diablo 4?
After a season ends, your seasonal character will get transferred to the Eternal Realm. This character's items will be transferred over there as well. Some season-specific things will not transfer over, however. For example, Malignant Hearts for Diablo 4 Season 1 will become inaccessible in Season 2.
Malignant Hearts in the inaugural season refer to items that drop after taking down partly-corrupted enemies. Players then use the Cage of Binding item to capture Malignant Hearts. In Diablo 4 Season 1, there are a total of 32 Malignant Hearts across four categories.
According to Blizzard, seasonal content allows for temporary gameplay mechanics. Seasons also encourage players to be creative while trying out different classes and builds. Since all players create new characters each season, it levels the playing field as well.
