Diablo IV takes a page out of its predecessor’s book, adding in a variety of different goblins with the March of the Goblins event.

Diablo IV (D4) has taken a backseat to Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) in recent times. While the game is in a good spot, with players constantly returning for new seasons, it does not have the hold of its competitor. Even so, the game remains interesting, with events and class balancing on the rise. The next event, coming on March 4, sees the March of the Goblins returning to Sanctuary.

March of the Goblins brings back the Diablo 3 treasure hoarders

From March 4 through March 11, the goblins will return in the March of the Goblins event, but now they have different variations. Similar to the goblins of the previous title, Diablo III (D3), there are a host of different types – all of which have specific drops and treasures. In total, we will see six variations of the creatures, and they will remain after the event ends.

  • Odious Ector – Similar to the Odious Collector of D3, these goblins will drop a bunch of crafting materials and Obducite upon death.
  • Gilded Baron – This one is exactly the same as its previous iteration – the Baron’s drop tons of gold.
  • Glittering Prym – The Gem Hoarders of D4, these will give countless gem fragments, runes, Undercity Tributes, and Scattered Prisms.
  • Curious Murl – The Murl drops Murmuring Obols upon defeat in the form of a Murl’s Bag of Obols. Even if you're at maximum Obol capacity, you can still collect this bag.
  • Gelatinous Syre – Back in D3, these were some of the most annoying goblins to kill, as they split upon death. They now make a return in D4, dropping at least one Legendary item, gold, elixirs, and boss-summoning materials.
  • Fancy Old Fedric – This could be akin to the Menagerist or Rainbow Goblins of D3. While no equivalent exists, these extremely rare goblins will impart you with a Mythic Unique and a Resplendent Spark when killed.

With the new goblin variants remaining across all realms after the event, players can hunt these down whenever possible. However, during the March of the Goblins, there is a much higher chance to find each one and claim your rewards. The event will run from March 4 to March 11 before the goblins become much scarcer across Sanctuary.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will ever see a Whimsyshire or Greed portal opening in D4. Maybe this will be the gateway to Blizzard re-adding Goblin Shrines and more fun aspects such as the Cow Level.
