Update 8.2.6 for Destiny 2 is right around the corner, and with it comes a brand-new Crucible mode, Heavy Metal.
Player versus player (PvP) enthusiasts in Destiny 2 (D2) can rejoice, as Heavy Metal is about to be a part of the game. This brand-new mode will be released a few days after Update 8.2.6 on May 9. Coming in alongside a new dungeon-based activity, Rite of the Nine, and a sandbox update, Heavy Metal looks to be a fun, crazy, and innovative event.
Although Bungie did show us a bit of gameplay during the developer livestream on March 4, we have more details of the new mode.
Heavy Metal: Blast your enemies away with Drake Tanks and Fallen Brigs

Normal PvP in D2 can be rather fun. We have seen many different forms of it throughout the years in the game. The normal ones we know, such as Iron Banner or Trials of Osiris. There have been others, such as Sparrow Racing in Destiny 1 and Trials of the Nine, although we are unlikely to see these again. However, adding to this, Bungie has confirmed the addition of Heavy Metal with Update 8.2.6.
Heavy Metal puts an entirely new spin on PvP in Destiny 2. Unlike normal D2 PvP, players will have the chance to pilot either a Fallen Brig or a Drake Tank. Utilizing these, players will need to blow up their opponent’s vehicle to score points.
Each destroyed vehicle counts as 1 point, but they will also drop a coin, which can be claimed to earn another 1 point. Collecting coins is key to survival, as it ensures health regeneration and secondary weapon ammo. Kill leaders will also be stronger, but marked for enemies to claim a golden coin 2-point bounty. The victory goes to the first team to accumulate a total of 50 points.
During the developer livestream on March 4, we got our first look at the all-out warfare of Heavy Metal. In the short segment, we got to see a bit of the playtesting for this mode. This tantalizing taste got players hyped for something a bit more fun in D2.
