Heavy Metal players find themselves annoyed with the new Destiny 2 grind

Destiny 2 players have grown to love the new PvP Heavy Metal mode, but there is one aspect that is causing a few problems.

Destiny 2’s latest patch, Update 8.2.6, came with a few new features, including the extremely hyped Heavy Metal. This player-versus-player (PvP) mode sees Guardians take the pilot seat in either a Fallen Brig or a Drake Tank. Once settled in, it becomes time to blast your opponents away, as you try to reach the score limit and claim victory.

On May 9, Heavy Metal launched and became an instant hit. However, everything has since turned a corner. Players have, since then, begun to find tedium in the grind to complete the new Event Card.

Grinding Heavy Metal is not for the faint of heart

When Heavy Metal was first announced, Destiny 2 players were excited to have a new Crucible addition, especially one with vehicular combat. Once released, the new mode seemed to grab the game’s community instantly. Through the forums and Reddit, players were thanking Bungie for the new feature.

Unfortunately, after four days, it seems as though this positive feedback has turned on its head. Now, player feedback has moved to the new Event Card added for Heavy Metal. Players have reported the extreme grind that they are having to overcome to finish the card. And they are not happy about this.

Reddit user SneakyPanduh stated that they “like heavy metal. But there’s one map. 10 times was enough for me and you expect me to play ~46 matches or pay silver?”

Their sentiments were echoed throughout the comment section of the post. Further issues arose when players realised that they have only until Friday, May 16, to complete the Event Card before the mode disappears. While it is likely that it will return later in the season, a little over a week seems as though it is not enough time for some.

Although that said, others further in the comments section retorted, claiming that the rewards were easy to earn. These players added that by doing a few rounds of Heavy Metal per day and completing daily challenges, the Event Card could be completed without many issues.

Furthermore, others seemed to enjoy the grind and the game mode. Some even admitted to working on "gilding" their brand-new title.

More problems arise

However, this does not seem to be the only complaint being made recently. Players are also unhappy with the control system and movement for Heavy Metal. This problem is mainly related to the Drake Tank rather than the Fallen Brig. Moreover, hit registration has also been brought up often as an issue.

For now, Heavy Metal remains a hit mode, despite the complaints. We will have to wait to learn if and when the Crucible mode will make a return further down the line. For now, it appears that players will have to stick to the grind to get all the rewards before May 16.
