Lord of Wolves is just one weapon disabled for this weekend’s race.
A new Destiny 2 season normally means another broken Exotic weapon, and sure enough, just hours out from the launch of the Sundered Doctrine dungeon race, Bungie has disabled Lord of Wolves in Destiny 2 after players discovered the shotgun was dealing way too much damage.
The Sundered Doctrine World First race begins at reset later today, but guardians will have to run it without using Lord of Wolves which received a little too much of a buff with Episode: Heresy.

Players dived into Episode: Heresy this week and its abundance of new content and changes. It didn't take long for guardians to give the revamped Lord of Wolves a go — and in the process they discovered the damage the Exotic shotgun now dealt.
Lord of Wolves received a buff this season, with the Exotic catalyst reworked. Firing the weapon while aiming down sights and landing kills spread Solar Scorch to nearby enemies. But it's the hip fire ability that is broken — simply landing shots while aiming from the hip stacked up Scorch on the target.
This Scorch stacking meant plenty of Ignitions and, when you put it all together, it makes for a boss-melting beast not seen since the shotgun first arrived. Plenty of clips of the "flamethrower" at work have been shared.
One such video from YouTuber SneakyBeaver sees their fireteam utterly demolish this week's dungeon final boss. Everything from The Nether majors to Master Raid bosses have all been disintegrated by Lord of Wolves.
Unfortunately, those hoping to use the OP shotgun for the new dungeon this weekend are out of luck. Bungie has caught onto Lord of Wolves' rise in Destiny 2 and will be disabling the weapon for the entirety of Contest Mode.

Also disabled for Sundered Doctrine's Contest Mode is the Volatile Marksman Artifact Mod's boost, class-specific Exotic glaives, and the Auto-Loading Holster weapon perk. Microcosm has been disabled game-wide for an unrelated bug.

This is the third time Lord of Wolves has been disabled for an activity since it arrived way back in Forsaken. The shotgun took over PvP for a weekend after it was released in 2017 — enough to warrant a special emblem for those who endured the experience.
It was nerfed into the ground, but buffed again in 2022, after which it began taking over PvE and PvP lobbies. Bungie was forced to disable the shotgun and nerf it again, and while this time it seems unintentional, we aren't expecting Lord of Wolves to survive this week without a nerf.
At the very least, Bungie is allowing players to use the weapon outside of the dungeon, so equip and use it while you can!
