What happened in the series?

Mirage

Mirage started with a spectacular three-kill round by Zywoo. The youngster was raring to go at the Lanxess arena getting his team ahead in the pistol round.

The first-round win allowed Vitality to run away with the match and amass a quick 4-0 lead. There were valiant efforts by Cloud9 players who showcased individual performances, however, they were few and far between. The Vitality members are also equally skilled if not more and their coordination and ability to stop the Cloud9 train in its tracks was in full display today.

Vitality closed the first half with a 10-5 lead. The second half saw Cloud9 put up a fight and claw back some rounds. However, Vitality's lead was too big for them to actually lose. Vitality ended Mirage with a 16-11 victory.

Inferno

After taking Cloud9's map pick of Mirage, Vitality moved on to Inferno, one of their more comfortable maps. But map picks mean little at such a high level of Counter-Strike.

The second map was a much closer affair with both teams taking it to Overtime.

The map was close right from the word go. Sh1ro looked to be in excellent form and was a big reason for Cloud9's small lead in the early game. The youngster had some incredible performances throughout the first half.

But Vitality's composure and their ability to dictate the pace of the game allowed them the control needed. And ofcourse, there were stellar individual performances from Zywoo and others. With a 90.1 ADR, Zywoo was towering over everyone else in the server on Inferno. He finished the map with 35 kills to his name and most of these kills were impactful.

Vitality eventually won Inferno with a 19-17 score. They will next face off against ENCE in the semifinals.

Vitality vs Cloud9 Preview

Vitality kicked off their IEM Cologne tournament with two straight wins. The teams’ performance was under a lot of scrutiny cause of some of their recent roster changes. But the team has looked solid and so far has only impressed fans and critics.

Vitality relies on a mix of firepower and has slowly been diversifying its attack strategy away from just Zywoo. However, for any opponent, they cannot simply ignore Zywoo who remains one of the top players in the server. They come into this event on the back of two big event wins including the BLAST.tv Paris Major.

Vitality recently added flamez to the roster replacing Dupreeh on the squad. Flamez brings a raw aggression that is simply unmatched when it comes to Team Vitality.

Cloud9’s CS:GO roster has added Perfecto and electronic, two of the biggest players on NAVI. The two players joined the squad in late July, which means they’ve not had a decent amount of time with their new teammates. With the relatively new roster and the fact that they comprise 40% of the squad, Cloud9 is a relatively unknown entity when it comes to IEM Cologne 2023.

The team lost to Fnatic in its opening match but made it through the lower bracket taking down 9INE, Monte, and GamerLegion.
