IEM Brazil 2023 announced: ESL returns to South America

CS: GO returns to Brazil in April after a very successful IEM Rio Major in 2022. Come to Brazil!!

After a very passionate and successful IEM Rio major, ESL has announced yet another tournament in Brazil in 2023. The IEM Brazil will take place from April 17-23, 2023 replacing IEM Spring that was originally scheduled for the same time. ESL announced some more details on the qualifiers leading up to IEM Brazil today with the first set of qualifiers starting in a few days.

The tournament will feature 16 teams from all over the world competing for their share of the prize pool. In addition, the coveted Intel Grand Slam point will also be up for grabs which is sure to get participation from multiple tier-one teams.

IEM Brazil will have a $250,000 prize pool. Although the venue has not yet been announced, Brazilian news outlet globo esports revealed the event will take place in Rio De Janeiro similar to the IEM Rio Major.

Of the 16 teams, ESL will send out direct invites to 11 while the remaining five will have to battle it out in the open qualifiers. The first set of open qualifiers starts on January 21 and will continue till February 16 this year. ESL will reveal the direct invites to the tournament as well as the closed qualifiers on January 16. Here’s the full schedule for the open qualifiers for the different regions.

IEM Brazil qualifiers

Europe:

  • Open Qualifier 1: 27th - 28th Jan (2 teams progress to closed qualifiers)
  • Open Qualifier 2: 30th - 31st Jan (2 teams progress to closed qualifiers)
  • Closed Qualifiers: 8th - 10th Feb (2 teams advance to IEM Brazil)

North America:

  • Open Qualifier 1: 26th - 27th Jan (1 team progresses to closed qualifiers)
  • Open Qualifier 2: 11th - 12th Feb (1 team progresses to closed qualifiers)
  • Closed Qualifiers: 15th - 16th Feb (1 team advances to IEM Brazil)

South America:

  • Open Qualifier 1: 26th - 27th Jan (1 team progresses to closed qualifiers)
  • Open Qualifier 2: 11th - 12th Feb (2 teams progress to closed qualifiers)
  • Closed Qualifiers: 15th - 16th Feb (1 team advances to IEM Brazil)

Asia:

  • Open Qualifier 1: 21st - 22nd Jan (2 teams progress to closed qualifiers)
  • Open Qualifier 2: 23rd - 24th Jan (2 teams progress to closed qualifiers)
  • Closed Qualifiers: 26th - 27th Jan (1 team advances to IEM Brazil)

The IEM Rio 2022 CS:GO Major Championship showcased a crowd that shook the world. We can’t wait to return to Brazil in April and watch onwards as we endeavor to crown another Counter-Strike champion!

The tournament will be the last event before teams head to the Blast CS: GO Major in Paris. In many ways, this will be the final glimpse for CS: GO fans looking forward to assess their favorite team's performance and placement before the Major.

ESL will reveal the tournament location at a later date. The list of direct invites for the tournament as well as the closed qualifier will be released on January 16, 2023.
