Evy and Hepa learned of their dismissal from the official announcement.

Heralding it as the next chapter in Evil Geniuses CS: GO, the organization has announced the departure of its coaching staff.

After just five months at the helm, EG Head coach, Damien "maLeK" Marcel  will be parting ways with the team. Paolo "EVY" Berbudeau and Juan "Hepa" Borges, both part of the coaching staff, will also part ways with the team.

The announcement comes after Evil Geniuses’ disappointing performance over the past few months. The team’s failure to qualify for the PGL Antwerp CS: GO Major was the final nail in the coffin and necessitated the organizational changes.

Malek joined Evil Geniuses early this year with a roster that raised hopes for North American CS. The team, comprising the likes of Stewie2k, autimatic and RUSH, a lineup that brings back memories of the only time NA won a CS: GO Major. Despite having such big names on the squad, the roster did not impress.

It's no secret that performances have not met expectations since the start of the year.Because of that we've made the tough decision to move CS: GO Head Coach, Damien 'maLeK' Marcel to a non-active role and have granted him permission to begin exploring new options for his career. We have also parted ways with Paolo 'Evy' Berbudeau and analyst Juan 'Hepa' Borges and thank them for their hard work during their time with Evil Geniuses.

A string of poor results, EG Coach take the fall

The first tournament for the roster was the BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2022. A 1:2 loss to BIG was disappointing, but not totally unexpected considering it was their first event together. The roster’s objectives were clear, and one of the most important ones was qualifying to the Major.

They crashed out of the first RMR open qualifier although they made it up in the second open qualifier. But when it came to playing against top teams, EG did not impress at all. The team finished last at ESL Pro League season 15, a surprising results considering the caliber of players on the squad. An 8th place finish in the Americas RMR, losing to South Americas 9z meant they could not attend the PGL Antwerp CS: GO Major.

A surprise announcement for staff

The announcement came as a surprise to the CS: GO Community, but it was also a surprise for the support coaching staff.

Soon after the announcement, Evy revealed on twitter he came to know of his unemployment via the official announcement.

The tweet roughly translates to “And indeed I was not warned. I learned my kick when I got up this morning.”

Evil Geniuses will look to revamp their coaching staff and hopefully, get some better results for their fans. The organization has promised additional information in the upcoming weeks, presumably after the conclusion of the PGL Antwerp CS: GO Major.

Evil Geniuses current CS: GO roster is as follows:

  • Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte
  • Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov
  • Jake "Stewie2K" Yip
  • Timothy "autimatic" Ta
  • William "RUSH" Wierzba
  • Damien "maLeK" Marcel (Inactive Coach - former EG Head coach)
