The Mongolz vs Eternal Fire preview
The two teams had a tough path through to the playoffs. The Mongolz started off strong with a 2-0 victory over Team Liquid. The impressive start to the tournament saw them cruise through momentum through the next match as well. However, they met their match against NAVI. Despite the 0-2 loss to NAVI, Mongolz did enough in the group stage to secure their spot in the IEM Katowice Playoffs.
Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch was the star during their victory over Team Liquid. As the only member on the team that had a positive KDA, 910 was one of the biggest reasons for The Mongolz’ victory. However, the team has a synergy that might not always be visible on the scorecard. Allowing players to flourish in their respective positions, The MongolZ playstyle has been cultivated over several months through careful planning and regional competition.
In the next match against GemerLegion, Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren was the frontrunner. The 23-year-old player had 38 kills to his name throughout the series. He started the series strong with an Ace in the second round and did not look back. The MongolZ have earned their place in the playoffs, but their real challenge begins now. They have to face off against much stronger opponents starting with Eternal Fire.
Eternal Fire took their first victory of the tournament against Falcons — a team that has seen quite a few changes recently. Despite some big names, the Falcons were unable to win a single match at IEM Katowice 2025. With four new members on the roster, it is evident that Zonic still needs some time to weave his magic. Despite a stellar 61-frag performance by Özgür "woxic" Eker, Eternal Fire couldn’t move past Virtus.Pro. It came down to overtime on Train, but Virtus.Pro pulled ahead at the last moment.
Despite the setback against Virtus.Pro, Eternal Fire continued with a strong performance in the lower bracket. A win over 3DMAX set them up for a match against FaZe Clan. Anubis went Eternal Fire’s way, but Nuke was a rollercoaster map with neither team letting the other go ahead. The map lasted 47 rounds which is when Eternal Fire managed to secure victory. With a 99.4 ADR, İsmailcan "Xantares" Dörtkardeş helped Eternal Fire secure the playoff berth at IEM Katowice.
