Eternal Fire’s XANTARES called it the “worst tournament” of his life.
Skyesports, the organizer behind the $300,000 CS2 tournament Skyesports Championship 2024 in Mumbai, India canceled the first day of the tournament following multiple tech issues on Tuesday, July 23.
The Indian tournament has been under much criticism all day as constant tech issues happened across multiple competitors. Only one of the matches scheduled for today, The MongolZ versus True Rippers, finished and it took nearly three hours due to the amount of technical pauses.
The group stage of Skyesports Championship 2024 is taking place at a hotel, and the matches couldn't be played due to internet and power issues. Eternal Fire and Revenant had to stop their best-of-one seven rounds in due to these tech issues.
According to Aurora's head coach Stepan "brain" Sivornov, Skyesports is deciding whether to keep the event running from the hotel or move it to a LAN center.
Players bash Skyesports Championship 2024 after tumultuous first day
Multiple CS2 players attending the event have already spoken out about the subpar infrastructure of the hotel. The Turkish superstar İsmailсan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş was the most critical of all as he called it the "worst tournament" of his life.
"I have never seen such a bad tournament in my life," XANTARES said on X. "The PCs are extremely bad, there were nails on the tables, and now the electricity goes out first, then the internet goes out, it's a disgrace."
Indian player Hrishikesh "Crazy_Gamer" Shenoy from True Rippers also cited a weird decision one of the tournament admins took during their match against The MongolZ.
"So in the 11-5 round, both the teams got disconnected from the server due to internet issues," Crazy_Gamer said on X. "o when the internet came back, the admins said 'The game will be restored to 11-6 because True Rippers disconnected first.' Insane rules!!"
And, perhaps the worst is that it's not only tech issues that players had to deal with. A video posted by CS2 content creator Ozzny shows how precarious some of the tables are. The wooden table in the video is clearly dirt and old, which is miles apart from the standards even in lower-tier tournaments.
