M80 replace NRG at BLAST Premier Fall Showdown

BLAST has announced today that M80 will replace NRG at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown. The announcement comes amidst a rumored new player addition to the North American squad. M80 were the second-best team in the North American Masters. They lost 1-2 to NRG in the Grand Finals, but they seem to be lucky as NRG have decided they cannot find the schedule for BLAST Premier Fall Showdown.

M80 recently parted ways with malbsMd, the star player on the team. With malbsMd, the squad had reached new heights and a run through the Counter-Strike Major that made others take note. However, with the roster change, it will be interesting to see how far the new squad can proceed.

M80’s Counter-Strike roster is as follows:

  • Michael "Swisher" Schmid
  • Ethan "reck" Serrano
  • Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich
  • Elias "s1n" Stein

The BLAST Premier Fall Showdown takes place in August later this year. The five-day event will take place online at Copenhagen. There will be a total of sixteen teams joining in. Ten teams will qualify for this event via the Fall Groups. The remaining six teams will have already secured their slot via the various regional tournaments. M80 takes NRG’s slot after the latter couldn’t confirm their participation. With the Shanghai Major coming up soon, NRG couldn’t find the time in their schedule to ensure they could participate in the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown.

The Fall Showdown would’ve been an excellent opportunity to qualify for the Fall Finals. With the BLAST Premier circuit format rewarding teams that come through the various events through to the World Finals, it will be a missed opportunity for NRG.
