IEM Rio 2024 announced for October

Viva la Brazil!

ESL has announced a return to Rio in 2024 with IEM Rio 2024. The tournament returns to Brazil bringing top-tier Counter-Strike to the passionate and a very energetic Brazilian crowd.

“Returning to Brasil and Rio de Janeiro for the third consecutive year, Intel Extreme Masters will be hosting 24 of the best teams together with thousands of passionate fans at the Farmasi Arena! The sheer ferocity of the Brazilian crowd, a range of activities and a weekend full of Counter-Strike is something you don't want to miss!”

When is IEM Rio 2024?

IEM Rio 2024 takes place in October this year. The tournament starts on October 7 and will continue for seven days ending on October 13.

The event takes place at the venue. The commentary within the venue itself will be in Portuguese, however, global fans can also enjoy the live stream in English and other languages.

Surprisingly, there are no tickets available for the Group stage. Only the tournament days (Oct 11-13) will have tickets available. ESL says this is in line with other big events such as the IEM Rio 2022, Katowice as well as IEM Cologne.

IEM Rio Tickets

The IEM Rio Tickets will go on sale on April 5, 2024. There are three different types of tickets, each providing different features on a different price range.

  • INFIELD: R$500
  • GrandStand (3 Day): R$400
  • GrandStand (1 Day): R$150-R$200

All three types of tickets grant access to the Counter-Strike tournament as well as signing sessions. The signing sessions will be on a first-come-first-serve basis so fans have to get there earlier and queue up if they want to greet their favorite players.

There is also an Experience Add-on that Counter-Strike fans can purchase for an additional premium of R$250. This add-on provides fans with a Goodie bag as well as a Fast Track (allowing them to enter the venue 30 prior). The Goodie bag contains an official event t-shirt, the official coin, a string bag, a poster as well as a 1 month Premium FaceIt 1 month membership.

What is the event format?

Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament. They form two groups of eight teams each. While the opening matches are best-of-one series, all remaining matches will be bo3. The top three teams from each group advance to the playoffs - which are a single-elimination bracket.

Group Stage

  • 2 x 8 Team Double-Elimination brackets
  • Opening matches Bo1
  • All other matches Bo3
  • The top 3 of each group advance to Playoffs
  • Group stage winners advance to the Semifinals
  • Group stage runners-up advance to Quarterfinals as the High Seeds
  • Group stage 3rd place teams advance to Quarterfinals as the Low Seeds

The group stage will have six partner teams. There will also be regional qualifiers including regional ones from Europe, North America, South America and Asia.
