NOBODY BEATS G2 10 TIMES IN A ROW

The Grand Finals of BLAST Premier Fall Finals 2024 saw G2 take on NAVI in a best-of-five series. While Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen had a poor record in Bo5, he also had never lost to G2 since joining NAVI. So, one way or another, records were going to change. Unfortunately for the Finnish leader, it was G2 lifting the trophy, ending their incredible loss streak.

BLAST Premier Fall Finals - Grand Finals - NAVI vs G2

  1. Natus Vincere removed Vertigo
  2. G2 removed Anubis
  3. Natus Vincere picked Ancient
  4. G2 picked Dust2
  5. Natus Vincere picked Mirage
  6. G2 picked Inferno
  7. Nuke was left over

Going into the match, analysts expected NAVI to take Ancient comfortably instead of putting Dust2 under the spotlight for the G2 side. If the series went all five maps, Inferno would be the perfect finale to close it out.

Map 1 - Ancient - "If [Aleksib]'s top fragging, we will win." says G2

malbsMd kicked off the BLAST Premier Fall Finals Grand Finals with a triple kill in the pistol, sparking a four-round streak for G2. NAVI nearly stopped it at three, but Aleksib's M4A1-S ran dry, allowing m0NESY to clutch with his sidearm. In Round 5, NAVI's mistake of leaving the bomb at A could've been costly, but G2 didn't capitalize, letting NAVI secure their first round.

This began a NAVI streak, tying the score with only m0NESY's AWP in their way. The teams then split the next two rounds, ending at 6-6.

If [Aleksib]'s top fragging, we will win.

G2 Comms during the half-time break

malbsMd shone again, netting two kills for a bonus, with NiKo clutching a 1v2 to deny NAVI's defuse. Despite G2 being under pressure from back-to-back impactful plays by iM and Aleksib, NiKo and m0NESY clinched the win with three stellar B-site rounds.

Map 2 - Dust2 - NiKo-m0NESY masterclass

NAVI started Dust2 strong in the Fall Finals Grand Finals, winning the pistol and securing a 3-0 lead. G2's first gun round was only a minor setback, as NAVI's CT side held firm. G2 finally found momentum when their AWPer secured three frags, earning them back-to-back rounds.

On an eco, jL made his solo M4A1-S work, finding four frags to snatch one more round for NAVI. The teams traded rounds, with NAVI barely keeping their lead. A wild spray from NiKo accidentally took down Snax, but G2 kept the half close at 5-7.

Despite NAVI winning two out of four pistols, G2’s Deagles stole a force-buy win, setting up a strong CT side. G2 extended their lead to 10-8 before b1t, iM, and w0nderful combined to stop G2’s streak. The teams kept exchanging rounds, leading to a crucial final stretch. In a tense 1v2, b1t couldn’t close, giving G2 a match point. Round 24 saw G2's stars win all their duels, securing the map 13-11.

Map 3 - Inferno - NAVI with the miraculous comeback from 1-9

G2 dominated the pistol round on what could be the Fall Finals' final map, crushing NAVI early on Mirage. They ceded just one of the first six rounds, with huNter- joining m0NESY and malbsMd in leading the charge. Even in disadvantageous spots, G2 kept momentum while NAVI's structure crumbled. Needing a miracle, w0nderful delivered, pulling off a stunning 1v2 clutch with double headshots, keeping NAVI barely alive as they found just three rounds in the half.

NAVI needed a pistol to win to keep their trophy hopes alive, and the hunter- gave them a chance by failing to get the plant, allowing NAVI to swarm B. With that boost, NAVI's stars began to shine, cutting G2's lead to just two rounds by the time G2 bought rifles again.

Round 18 presented a perfect opportunity for NAVI to tie the game—G2 had only pistols, and NAVI had the read. Yet, jL, iM, and w0nderful all missed simple kills, throwing the round away. However, NAVI recovered in the following rounds, eventually taking the lead.

G2 found an opening kill thanks to m0NESY, and it was the lightning-fast sniper that stole a round for a NAVI with a clutch. Another miss from w0nderful should've spelled the end for NAVI, but the Aleksi-led side pulled off a perfect 3v5 to take match point. With jL and iM combining for 41-kills, NAVI barely closed it out to keep the series going.

Map 4 - b1tferno

Inferno seemed like it wouldn't come into play. But after a much-needed break, G2 took a pistol to win with the bomb timer. A misplay from Snax gave NAVI the perfect platform to get an early equalizer. b1t's importance on the map was quickly apparent as m0NESY found an opener on his former teammate, forcing all 9 players on the map to converge on A.

G2's lead extended to 6-4 as NiKo and m0NESY pulled a 2v4 across the line. Crucial kills from b1t and iM denied G2 the space they needed to mount an A attack, keeping their opponents within arms reach at halftime.

NAVI took the pistol round win, but NiKo and malbsMd turned their deagles into lasers to deny the conversion. That prompted the Snax-led side to extend to double digits quickly as NAVI's economic woes continued. Even when guns came out, NAVI had nothing to offer as G2 took 11. Aleksib nearly pulled off a miracle, but it was m0NESY to deny them once more, taking championship point.

The following round saw NAVI find an opener on Banana before crunching down on the A site to stay alive for a bit longer. b1ad3 immediately called a timeout, urging his team on, while TaZ did the same for G2. As had been the case so often, m0NESY was in a 1v2 to win the match. Lightning quick as always, he sniped one down out of position. And as Aleksib planted the bomb, he knew the jig was up. m0NESY closed out the map 13-7.

G2 are the BLAST Premier Fall Finals Champions

Four long maps and months in the making, G2 has secured the title at the BLAST Premier Fall Finals after a dominant showing against NAVI in the Grand Finals. The series could have easily ended in just three maps. While m0NESY may not have had the best event, when it counted, the youngster stepped up. As with any trophy-winning roster, the question must be asked - Is G2 in the running to win the Shanghai Major? Only time will tell us that answer.
