All quarterfinal matches are set now.

FURIA are through to the Esports World Cup playoffs following a victory against The MongolZ on the Ressurection Stage on Thursday, July 18.

The Brazilian team led by the two-time CS:GO Major champion Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo weren't exactly favorites heading to the decisive best-of-one series against The MongolZ, as the Mongolian team have been playing way better over the past few months.

FURIA, however, put out a strong performance on Nuke off the back of an impressive individual showing from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato, and ran away with a 13-9 victory to advance to the playoffs.

Before beating The MongolZ, the Brazilians eliminated FlyQuest and Sashi from the event earlier in the day. They found themselves in the Ressurection Stage after losing to Natus Vincere on the debut yesterday, July 17.

With this result, FURIA will now play against MOUZ in the Esports World Cup quarterfinals tomorrow, July 19 at 7:45 a.m. PT. The quarterfinals will kick off today with Spirit versus G2, and will resume tomorrow with Vitality versus Virtus.pro, FURIA versus MOUZ, and NAVI versus FaZe Clan.

What to expect from the Esports World Cup playoffs?

While we're just at the start of the second semester of the tier-one competitive CS2 calendar and anything can change, here's what you can expect from the Esports World Cup playoffs:

  • Spirit versus G2: Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač will definitely have to shine to help G2 beat Spirit as the team are still adapting after the additions of Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski and Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa during the player break. Spirit, on the other hand, are considered the best team in the world after they won the BLAST Premier Spring Final before the players went on vacation.
  • Vitality versus Virtus.pro: Although Vitality are yet to win a championship in 2024 and display the same form they did in 2023, they're consistently getting more far in tournaments than Virtus.pro, thus are the clear favorites.
  • FURIA versus MOUZ: It's hard to imagine FURIA beating MOUZ in the quarterfinals. The Brazilian team are still trying to find their groove this year, while MOUZ have already lifted trophies at ESL Pro League season 19 and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade earlier this year.
  • NAVI versus FaZe: This is a bit of an unpredictable match as neither FaZe nor NAVI have played as well as they can in the past few months. FaZe enjoyed a strong start in CS2 but lost some steam, while NAVI have never really replicated the form that made them win the PGL Copenhagen Major. Anything can happen in this match.

The winner of the Esports World Cup will take home $400,000 and will kick off the second semester in great style as we line up for greater tournaments in the form of IEM Cologne in August.

That's all for now. Stay tuned to esports.gg for more CS2 news.
