FaZe defeats G2 in a tight duel at BLAST Premier World Final

G2 will play quarter-finals, FaZe will go to semi-finals.

FaZe has defeated G2 in the final game of the upper bracket of the BLAST Premier World Final. Both teams won their map of choice, but on the decider on Anubis, things were finally settled.

With this result, FaZe has a spot guaranteed in the semi-finals against the winner of the Cloud9 and MOUZ match. G2 will face Natus Vincere in the quarter-finals on the other side of the bracket.

FaZe and G2 where both coming off recent changes in their rosters. David "frozen" Čerňanský replaced Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken at FaZe while Nemanja "nexa" Isaković returned to G2 to replace Justin "jks" Savage.

FaZe vs G2 (Inferno, Nuke, Anubis)

The first map was chosen by the G2 Esports team, starting with a series victory. FaZe then tied the match on Nuke, leaving everything to Anubis.

G2 dominates Inferno against a slow FaZe

In Inferno, the standout duo were cousins Nikola 'NiKo' Kovač and Nemanja 'huNter-' Kovač. G2 opened up an 8-4 lead on the terrorist side, making a comeback more difficult for G2. On this side of the map, Nexa gave time to shine with a 1x3 clutch.

FaZe still got closer to G2, but the team closed the map comfortably, scoring the five necessary points on the CT side to close the map (13-7). G2 even closed on the map with a force. 

FaZe tied the match in Nuke

On their map of choice and looking to tie the series, FaZe scored just four points in the first half of the match. However, the team performed a practically perfect CT side, completing nine rounds in a row (13-10).

FaZe faced a "super" NiKo on Nuke, finishing with 30 kills and a 1.84 rating, however, insufficient to lead G2 to victory.

FaZe closes the series in Anubis

The last map demonstrated the quality of both teams. The first half started 6:6 and the balance remained in the second half, leading to everything being decided in overtime (16-13).

The highlight of the match was the FaZe captain, Finn 'karrigan' Andersen, almost reaching 27 kills in the match.
