Falcons zonic: “We’re very far from becoming the best team in the world.”

Falcons and zonic haven’t won a tournament yet.

When Falcons secured the services of the five-time Major champion Danny "zonic" Sørensen in November 2023 everyone thought they'd be one of the best CS2 teams in the world 2024—but they're not even close to getting there at this point of the year.

Fortunately, despite the side effects, there are lots of Counter-Strike events to play these days, which means teams have the chance to prove themselves twice a month sometimes. BetBoom Dacha CS2 2024 is currently running in Belgrade, Serbia and as there aren't too many S-tier teams attending the event, it's a chance for Falcons to turn things around.

Esports.gg got a hold of zonic following their convincing 2-0 victory against BetBoom in group A, which kept them alive in the tournament for now and talked about how the Falcons' project is going thus far.

"When I was hired, Falcons told me they have high ambitions and that CS is a priority for the organization, they want to become the best team in the world," zonic said. "We're very far from becoming the best team in the world with our achievements this year maybe except for IEM Katowice, but that was at the beginning of the year. It has been disappointing, and you can't just instantly become top three, that's very tough nowadays."

Falcons' chances at BetBoom Dacha

The international team led by zonic are attending BetBoom Dacha while they're also playing online events such as BLAST Premier Fall Showdown and soon the qualifier for IEM Rio.

While Falcons weren't at their best against 9z and lost the match, they're aiming to go far in the tournament, reach playoffs, and grab some points in Valve's world rankings.

Zonic mentioned during the interview with esports.gg that getting everyone around and sitting together to play a tournament on LAN like BetBoom Dacha is a breath of fresh air amid all the online matches they've been playing.

"The players are doing everything they can and they're working hard," zonic said. "We all agreed to accept the invite to come here without hesitation after IEM Cologne because we want to achieve our goals. I can't complain about anything but the results, which are unfortunately not showing the amount of work we're putting in."

Being in this position after all the glory in CS:GO with Astralis and later Vitality is probably hard for zonic, but the coach is determined to turn things around in Falcons.

"It's been a long time since I won my last tournament and I need to get that feeling again," zonic said. "It kind of becomes like a drug, you get addicted to it, and the more you take it has less effects. But, I don't think about all the things I've achieved, in fact, I achieved nothing in CS2 thus far, and for me, that's a big motivation to start getting results."

What comes next for Falcons at BetBoom Dacha?

Now that Falcons and zonic stayed alive in BetBoom Dacha after defeating BetBoom, they'll play against the loser of paiN Gaming versus 9z tomorrow on Aug. 26 for a playoff spot.

That's all for now. However, stay tuned to esports.gg to keep on top of everything that's happening at BetBoom Dacha.
