Imperial and Brazil are going through a good phase.

The year 2024 has been full throttle for Imperial who will participate in the ESL Pro League (EPL). Esports.gg spoke to one of the team's stars — Lucas "decenty" Bacelar. The team comes from participating in GET Rio, a tournament in Brazil full of controversy.

Imperial had a flight scheduled to Malta to compete in the EPL, but due to the GET Rio final, the team had to work together with ESL and find a solution. They flew out to the EPL on Sunday, and as a result, the players were tired, decenty explained.

"We arrived at 1 p.m. in Malta. I was particularly very tired. The team is good. Obviously, we are still with jet lag, so we’ll be a bit tired. However, we are happy that we are in such an important tournament."

Decenty and EPL

In their EPL debut, Imperial and decenty will face FaZe, the team that played the Brazilians outside of PGL Major Copenhagen. According to decenty, the team is excited for the EPL clash.

"We are very excited to play against FaZe after our Copenhagen Major. We know we can play against these teams, and we are very excited to show that."

To decenty, Group A of the competition will be strong, but the player didn't make a point of choosing who to face.

"Our main goal is going through the group stage, reach the playoffs, evolve, and learn according to our path in the tournament," decenty said. "Group A is very strong, but particularly, if you want to be the champion, you can’t choose your opponents. To evolve, learn, and reach their level, you have to play against the best teams."

Brazil in a good moment

Imperial and paiN had good runs in the last Major while MIBR is emerging strongly after failing to qualify for the event. Decenty told esports.gg that it is a positive for the Brazilian scene now that new teams are peaking.

"Brazil has been good, and that's very good for our nation. We are very happy there's other teams having peaks of performances beside us. They can win in one day, and us in another. We are at the top with them. It's very balanced."

With changes at FURIA, there is a warning for teams that are currently performing well. For now, the academy's Kayke "kye" Bertolucci has been chosen as a potential candidate, but this decision is not definitive. To decenty, there is no fear in Imperial just one day before EPL starts.

"We are a very united group. We’re not scared of any change in our team. It’s good to change the faces of the scene. A big team like FURIA changing the roster changes the scene. New teams will come, and it’s cool to mess things up a bit. There’s a lot of players that deserve a chance at a higher level."
