Wildcard’s hopes of causing a massive upset over Team Spirit at BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 rely heavily on map choices.

Wildcard and Team Spirit are gearing up to face one another for the first time since the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024. As BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 reaches its climax, the two teams fight for a spot in the semifinals. However, this match will prove to be extremely rough for Wildcard, with Spirit revitalized after their break.

Wildcard to take advantage of Team Spirit’s recent loss

  • The two teams have not faced one another since the Shanghai Major in 2024.
  • Team Spirit has won on both occasions they met in 2024.
  • Players to watch: donk, sh1ro, Sonic

Spirit’s recent loss to Team Falcons could have put a dent in their spirits. While it was a masterclass first map from Spirit, it all fell apart very quickly once Falcons locked in. Although there were no glaringly obvious errors, Wildcard can take advantage of a few aspects of the loss and use it to cause a massive upset. It will be no easy feat, but the map picks could heavily determine the outcome.

While Dust 2 is a much-loved map from Spirit, even after the loss against Falcons, Wildcard struggles with it. The team is currently on a four-map losing streak for Dust 2. Getting this map out of the pool could be something that works in their favor.

Nuke seems to be where Wildcard shines, as they sit on a four-map winning streak currently. While Spirit also has a good record with the map, there is a chance that Wildcard can create enough chaos to cause an upset.

That said, Spirit has more than just an edge. On paper alone, Spirit is miles ahead of Wildcard. It is easy to pick out a few players on the Spirit team who can carry and clutch, while it is more difficult with their opponent.

Highlights

It was the first half of eight wins for Spirit before we saw Wildcard make any clear signs of life on Anubis. But once they did, they seemed like a team wanting to show their worth. An ace from Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek began what looked like a comeback. Unfortunately, that was not enough to overcome the gap. Spirit re-established their footing a few rounds later and took a 13-7 win.

Dust 2 was on the cards next, and unfortunately, Wildcard were already on a loss streak on this map. Inversely, Dust 2 is one of the favored maps from Spirit. The underdogs needed to pull out all their best strategies for a chance at a comeback.

At the end of the first half, it was clear that Spirit had locked in, with an 11-1 scoreline. After losing the pistol round after the switch, Spirit cleaned up and took a 13-2 victory.

With that, Wildcard’s run at BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 came to a close. For Spirit, they now move on to the semifinals, where they will have to face off against Team Vitality for a grand finals spot.
