While sports betting is still banned in Georgia, the PGA Tour gaming division is pushing for its legalization.

In the beginning, there was sports. Then, betting was thrown into the fire. Now, we have one of the most popular pastimes in the world: sports betting. However, many areas of the world still have not legalized sports betting. One of these areas is Georgia, USA, but the official PGA Tour is urging the state's lawmakers to legalize the popular pastime.

PGA Tour gaming division strives to get sports betting legalized in Georgia

While many of the states do allow sports betting, there are still a few that are behind the times. The PGA Tour gaming division, though, would like to help see these states make the decision to legalize the activity.

The head of PGA Tour's gaming division, Scott Warfield, had discussions with Georgia lawmakers in hopes of bringing a better light to sports betting.

“This is a way to get the core fan engaged longer on our sport,” Warfield said. “They pay close attention to the tournaments and interact with our content more.”

Atlanta has some of the most popular teams across multiple sports in its city. Sports betting would not only bring in quite a bit of revenue for them, but it would also bring in more attentive viewers.

Georgia's state income tax may be out the door, making room for sports betting

The biggest sell on allowing sports betting in Georgia is the recent push for the state's state tax to be removed. This would require new forms of revenue sources for the state, making sports betting a prominent option.

While there is still opposition to removing Georgia's state tax, there is still a solid chance the law will pass, which would get rid of a significant amount of money that goes to the state. However, Georgia's House Study on Gaming is looking to possibly legalize casinos and sports betting, which could be a huge win for the state.
