A brand new 160 team Apex Legends LAN event.
Brand new in ALGS Year 5 is the ALGS Open, a brand new 160 team LAN event that anyone could qualify for. This will be the most teams ever competing at an ALGS LAN event and will be one of the most memorable Apex Legends events in history. This is part of a reshuffled and revamped ALGS format for the fifth year of the programme.
So, how will this event work and more importantly, how can you enter and earn your spot at the first ever ALGS Open?
You can hear directly from ALGS Comissioner John Nelson on ALGS Year 5 below:
How will the ALGS Open work?
Of course, with 160 teams, the ALGS Open will have to follow a different format to the ALGS Split 1 and Split 2 Playoff events that we are used too. Instead, a bit like last summers Esports World Cup, it will follow a double Elimination bracket format.
However, don't worry, there will still be the iconic Championship Sunday Match Point Format to award the $1,000,000 in event prizing. This event will also be crucial for the ALGS Championship. The ALGS open awards crucial ALGS Championship Points.
That means that teams have a chance at going from Preseason Qualifiers, all the way to having a secured spot at the ALGS Championship, without having to play a single Pro League game.
