Titanfell: New Titanfall and Apex Legends singleplayer game canceled in EA’s cull

Apex Legends and Titanfall fans alike mourn the cancelation of a singleplayer Respawn shooter.

The latest victim of EA’s cull of titles and live service games has been revealed, as the vaunted and upcoming new Titanfall single player game was reportedly canceled after three years of development.

EA’s mass culling of live service games and upcoming titles started yesterday, as the company announced the closure of Apex Legends Mobile, Battlefield Mobile, and other titles. But Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported today that EA had also canceled a singleplayer game based on the Apex Legends and Titanfall franchises.

As most people know, Apex Legends began life as a battle-royale adaptation of the cult classic Titanfall games. Titanfall 2, in particular, is heralded as an incredible title with slick movement, fantastic gunplay, and a solid story. Naturally, fans were chomping at the bit for a chance to get their hands on a new Titanfall game, but now it looks like they’ll be waiting indefinitely for the chance to do so.

EA’s mass cancellation comes in response to its holiday 2022 earnings report that stated it had fallen close to $250 million short of its projections. In response, over $140 million of costs are being slashed, and Apex Legends Mobile and this new Titanfall game happened to be on the chopping block, along with much of their development teams.

However, the cutbacks are reported not to affect some of EA’s other major upcoming titles, such as the highly anticipated Jedi Fallen Order sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, although the game was hit with a delay a day ago. Additionally, this comes as a blow to EA’s overall upswing of reputation, following a critically acclaimed release of the Dead Space remake and respectable reviews for Need for Speed Unbound. EA has, in one fell swoop, alienated a huge swath of fans.
