esports.gg speaks to Noctem’s Atinum at the ALGS Championship.

Noctem and Atinum have been one of the standout teams across both the ALGS Championship so far, and had a very strong LAN debut at the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs. Backed by a passionate grassroots organisation backed in the United Kingdom, they are performing very strongly and are a real surprise package on the global stage.

esports.gg spoke to Atinum ahead of the ALGS Championship in Sapporo, Japan. You can watch the full interview, including a get to know you quickfire round, below.

Atinum on flying under the radar

Noctem in Germany were an unknown quantity, but after their 14th placed finish in Mannheim they are firmly on the radar of the ALGS community. Does Atinum and Noctem feel the difference this time around?

"That's an interesting question because when I stream I don't really get a lot of viewers. I get maybe five or so. And then sometimes when people host me or there's a big event going on, or even in Germany, that has an effect on some people. That doesn't have that much of an effect on me. And I think that's what makes us so good because we don't really feel the crowd, the influence.

"It doesn't negatively affect us because that's what happens with some people, I feel like, with some teams the crowd and the noise and everything has a negative impact on their game. But with us, even if people say something or they don't think that we're going to do good, we don't care about that, right? We play our game and we just stick to what we know."

What advice does Atinum have for Challenger Circuit players?

Before his big breakthrough, Atinum was a stalwart of the Challenger Circuit in Apex Legends. He competed alongside a range of teams, gathering experience and working his way up through the ALGS ecosystem. What advice would he give to others looking to also climb the ladder in ALGS Year 5?

"My journey was a long and difficult one, that's for sure. There's a lot of hardships, but I mean, there won't be a journey without those hardships, there's always going to be some up and downs. And I kept with it because I knew how good I was. Like regardless of the results, regardless of what happened.

"I had some teams where I didn't perform how I wanted to perform or hoped, but I knew, like I believed in my individual ability because this team is very new. And so very new as in like a team as together and very new to comp as a game. So I've always believed in myself and that's why I just kept on going because I knew how far I could get. So for a word of advice to other people is just to play as a team.

"I think mentality is the most important part  a lot of people have a weak mental, they do bad in one game and they just completely fall over. And I think the mentality, having a strong mental is what really makes a player. Because you can't have a bad, like, you will always have a bad game. It's about how that bad game affects you. If it doesn't affect you or if it does. And if it doesn't, then I think that's what makes you a strong player."
