The community aren’t happy, and the reviews show it.

Steam reviews for Apex Legends have reached "Overwhelmingly Negative" as players continue to react to the recently announced Battle Pass changes.

EA announced last week that the Apex Legends Battle Pass will be changing from Season 22. There will now be two Battle Passes per season, both requiring a purchase. Additionally, you'll no longer be able to use Apex Coins to pay for the Battle Pass. Instead, you'll need to pay $9.99 of real money per pass. That's $20 per season.

The "review-bombing" that Apex Legends is experiencing is designed to pressure EA into reversing the planned changes to the Battle Pass.

Apex Legends players leave negative reviews in response to Battle Pass changes

Thousands of negative reviews have been left for Apex Legends over on Steam. Perhaps even more interestingly, according to steamdb, not a single positive review has been logged since the Battle Pass changes were announced.

This Apex review bombing campaign appears to be persistent too. The announcement is almost a week old, but negative reviews keep pouring in. While the actual number of reviews isn't that high, having the "Overwhelmingly Negative" tag on the Apex Legends Steam page will be a worry for EA.

Apex player numbers keep dropping

This unrest amongst the player base comes amid a continual decline in the amount of people playing the game. Apex Legends player numbers have consistently fallen every month in 2024 besides February. This was when the huge Season 20 update released, which included an EVO Shield overhaul and the new Perks system.

However, since then, the Apex player count has dropped every month. This includes, albeit by only a few thousand players, May 2024. This was when Season 21 released, and it is concerning that a new season launch did not see a spike in players as people returned to try out the new content.
