Full details for the Apex Legends Esports World Cup.
Apex Legends heads to the Esports World Cup next week, and we've got all the details you need to know ahead of the event kicking off. 40 teams will compete across the four day event.
The Esports World Cup is a huge multi-title esports tournament taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Alongside all the game competitions, there is also a huge 'Club Championship' with esports organisations competing against eachother across the entire World Cup.
Apex Legends Esports World Cup Schedule
The Apex Legends Esports World Cup runs from August 1 - August 4. The tournament is split into three stages. There will be a Group Stage, a Last Chance Stage and the Grand Finals.
- Group A - August 1
- Group B - August 2
- Last Chance - August 3
- Grand Finals - August 4
Format
The tournament uses a different format to ALGS LAN events. The 40 teams are divided into Group A and Group B. They compete in those groups, with the top nine teams from each moving directly on to Sundays Grand Finals.
The 10th-19th placed teams will compete in the Last Chance event, where a further two teams will advance to the Grand Finals.
However, this simpler format does not mean a quick affair. The Group Stage and Last Chance stages will be a huge 10 games, giving teams lots of matches to get into the top 9.
Although, with so many games, once a few teams start to move away from the pack, could we see some 'unique' Legend choices.
The Grand Finals will use Match Point format. However, there will be an adjusted threshold of 60 points. This is higher than the 50 we see in the ALGS. This should make the tournament last at least five games, with no Advance Starting Points in play either.
Otherwise, the standard Apex Legends ALGS scoring system will be in use. One point for kills, and placement accruing between 0 and 12 points.
Maps
Storm Point and Worlds Edge will be the primary maps used across the Apex Legends Esports World Cup. However, for two games in the Group Stage and Last Chance stage, there will be a Viewer Selection. Fans can vote for one of Olympus, Broken Moon and Kings Canyon.
These are maps we don't see in the ALGS, which should be a refreshing twist on Apex Legends competitive.
