M+ DPS tier list for Season 1 of WoW The War Within

Season 1 of The War Within has begun, and we are starting to see what specs people are bringing to M+ to help craft the current season's meta. We have compiled this tier list based on what DPS specs we are seeing in to the top M+ runs.

Please note, this is not a final tier list, and will change throughout the season based on dungeon hot-fixes, class changes, gear scaling, etc.

Always remember that at the end of the day, gear and skill matter more than just bringing the top spec. As many of us have seen, a great player on a B-Tier spec will always outperform a subpar player on an S-Tier spec.

The first season is starting out and, as expected, we have Augmentation Evokers leading the charge. Frost Mages are also seeing a lot of play in the higher keys right now due to ease of play and utility over the more powerful Arcane spec. The big surprises are death knights, both frost and unholy have cemented themselves early in the season as specs to look out for.

Specs in the A-Tier bracket are ones that still have a great damage profile and bring something useful to the group. Specs like Fury and Arms have great burst damage to get some of those larger trash packs down while providing a decent AOE stun with Shockwave. Elemental shaman has been on a gradual upswing in the last few seasons and it seems The War Within is going to be their time in the sun.

Specs showing up in the B-Tier are all solid, but just lacking in an area where maybe one of the S-Tier or A-Tier specs can really stand out more. Recent nerfs to the Diabolist hero talent tree really hurt Destruction and Demonology or else I think we would be seeing both of those specs higher in the tier list right now.

Windwalker monk is the odd one out here, as I think it has the potential to be higher up in the tier list, as it provides great utility in lower keys with Ring of Peace and Leg Sweep being the best at dealing with Xal'atath's Bargain: Ascendant, but once that affix was no longer an issue we saw less and less monks climbing the ladder.

C-Tier DPS specs are the ones who ultimately struggle more in the current season whether it's a lack in damage or utility. These are those specs that, if there are no other options, can still perform decent enough with the right player, but will always be left in the queue if others show up.

The real pain here lies in BM hunters, one of the most played specs in the game, it goes into The War Within with its AOE damage being nerfed into the ground, which is one of the most important aspects of Mythic+. Even with their great utility with their different traps and being a "Bloodlust/Heroism" class, there is really no reason to play Beast Mastery in Mythic+.
