Championship Points make their way to the VALORANT Champions Tour in 2024, given to teams who place at the top of leagues and events.
A lot of information regarding the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour was revealed by Riot Games' Global Head of VALORANT Esports, Leo Faria. There are details regarding Challengers, how the year will begin, and the introduction of Championship Points to competitive VALORANT.
Prior to partnered teams and the current VCT format, teams earned circuit points throughout the season. Those with the highest claimed their spot at Champions. That method of determining top teams, now known as Championship Points, is back in 2024.
Championship Points awarded to teams in the VALORANT Champions Tour
More information is sure to arrive as the 2024 VCT gets closer. For right now, we know that Championship Points are on their way. In the announcement video, Leo Faria had the following to say regarding their inclusion in top tier competitive VALORANT:
"Across International Leagues and Global Events, teams will earn points based on their performance. The rewards for winning will increase with each subsequent competition. And throughout the season, qualification for Global Events will be based on the team's more recent performance and Championship Points. Rewarding those who are great at the moment and those who have been consistent throughout the season."
It is important to note what Faria said about point acquisition later on in the year. Teams having a year like FNATIC's 2023 could run away with it and secure a spot at Champions very early, while other teams who take some time to get hot still have a shot at earning enough points to qualify.
