Make sure you have the best Mega Rayquaza moveset in Pokémon GO.

Mega Rayquaza is the most powerful Pokémon you can get in Pokémon GO at the moment, but what moveset should you use with it?

Mega Rayquaza is finally back in Pokémon GO, which gives Trainers a decision to make. What moveset is the most powerful, should you add a Second Move and do you need to invest an Elite TM into this Pokémon?

Mega Rayquaza best Pokémon GO moveset

Finding the best moveset for Mega Rayquaza is a bit different to other Pokémon in the game. In order to Mega Evolve, Rayquaza has to learn Dragon Ascent. However, it can only use this move with a Meteorite.

If you don't have Dragon Ascent on your Mega Rayquaza, it will not be able to Mega Evolve so you cannot unteach this move and still get Mega Rayquaza. Dragon Ascent is a Flying-type move, not a Dragon-type move.

However, Dragon Ascent is one of the single most powerful moves in the entirety of Pokémon GO. It deals huge amounts of damage and is not a hinderance at all on Mega Rayquaza.

But, you also want a good Dragon-type move on Mega Rayquaza too. That means we suggest getting a second move for Mega Rayquaza. This will cost 100 Rayquaza Candy and 100,000 Stardust. A hefty investment, but worth it to get the best moveset for Mega Rayquaza.

The best moveset for Mega Rayquaza in Pokémon GO is:

  • Dragon Tail (Fast Attack)
  • Dragon Ascent (Charged Attack)
  • Breaking Swipe* (Charged Attack)

*Breaking Swipe requires an Elite Charged TM

All moves Mega Rayquaza can learn

Fast Attacks:

  • Dragon Tail (Dragon-type)
  • Air Slash (Flying-type)

Charged Attacks:

  • Aerial Ace (Flying-type)
  • Ancient Power (Rock-type)
  • Hurricane* (Flying-type)
  • Outrage (Dragon-type)
  • Breaking Swipe* (Dragon-type)
  • Dragon Ascent (Flying-type)

Besides the Best Mega Rayquaza moveset we have recommended above, only two other moves are worth consideration.

Air Slash is a good Fast Attack if the Pokémon you are battling, say in a Raid, is weak to Flying-type moves. Because neither Fast Attacks require an Elite TM, you can swap moves before each Raid as best suits you.

Then, Outrage is also a good Dragon-type move. It has similar DPS (Damage per second) to Breaking Swipes. However, it is a much larger charge up for a much larger damage. That makes it less "spammy" which isn't always as good, especially for PvP.

But, if you don't want to use, or don't have an Elite TM for Mega Rayquaza, Outrage is a good Dragon-type move to have alongside Dragon Ascent. But, we really do recommend a Dragon-type second move to take full advantage of this powerful Mega Pokémon.
