What is going on in Pokémon GO?
Seeing Eggs above Gyms is pretty normal in Pokémon GO, but from time to time Ultra Wormholes appear in their place. These portals allow Ultra Beasts to enter the world of Pokémon GO.
Here is everything you need to know about Ultra Wormholes in Pokémon GO and the Ultra Beasts that they spawn.
What are Ultra Wormholes in Pokémon GO?
An Ultra Wormhole in Pokémon GO is essentially the same as a Five-Star Egg that can appear above a Gym. But, instead of a standard Legendary Pokémon, they will always lead to an encounter with an Ultra Beast.
If you want to check if there are any Ultra Wormholes spawning nearby, you can check the Nearby menu. If you see a portal symbol, that tells you that a Wormhole is nearby.
Ultra Wormholes will only appear when there is an Ultra Beast in the current Raid Boss rotation. As of November 2024, Nihilego is in rotation and will be appearing in Gyms during the Into the Wild event. There will also be a Nihilego Raid Hour on Tuesday, November 19.

How to catch an Ultra Beast in Pokémon GO
Capturing Ultra Beasts works the same as any other Legendary Raid. Once you defeat the Raid, you'll get a set number of Balls to throw to try and capture the Pokémon. Unless the Ultra Beast is Shiny, the catch won't be guaranteed.
Keep an eye out on your local Gyms in Pokémon GO, and head out wherever you see an Ultra Wormhole.
