A brand new item, the Max Mushroom, has come to Pokémon GO.
A brand new item has arrived in Pokémon GO, the Max Mushroom. This new item will help Trainers take on their Max Battles and Gigantamax Battles. It is an item that sits in the same category as the Star Piece and Lucky Egg.
With the Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day coming this weekend, here is everything you need to know about the Max Mushroom in Pokémon GO.
What does the Max Mushroom do in Pokémon GO?
The Max Mushroom will double the damage that your Pokémon do in Max Battles against either Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon. It will last 30 minutes once activated, and will work on any attacks during that time. That means you can chain up several battles to benefit from the bonus.
How much does it cost?
Every Trainer will get a small sample of the Max Mushroom, with a short 5 minute trial. Beyond that, like other items, Trainers will need to purchase them with coins or as part of bundles avaliable in the Web Store and In-Game Store.
The prices are as follows:
- 1 Max Mushroom - 400 PokéCoins
- 3 Max Mushrooms - 1000 PokéCoins

Does Roar of Time work on the Max Mushroom?
Roar of Time, the Origin Forme Dialga Adventure Effect, pauses timers for Lucky Eggs, Star Pieces and Incense. However, at the moment, it does not pause the timer for Max Mushroom in Pokémon GO.
This may change in the future, so stay tuned for any updates on that.
Is the Max Mushroom value for money in Pokémon GO?
The Max Mushroom is one of the most expensive items you can get in Pokémon GO. 1000 coins for three is a significant outlay, and isn't something most Trainers can get lots of without noticing the expense.
For most Dynamax Max Battles, these won't be needed. Pokémon like Dynamax Machop and Dynamax Beldum can be defeated solo.
However, for Gigantamax Max Battles, you need a lot of Trainers to defeat them. Doubling your damage in theory makes you count for two Trainers. So, if you are struggling to get enough Trainers together for events like Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day, these Max Mushrooms may well be useful.
If you can easily get 30-40 people together, you would be better off saving your coins for other items.
