What are Pokémon GO Research Day shiny odds?

Saturday, Dec. 7 sees another Research Day in Pokémon GO, with significantly improved shiny odds. The latest Research Day is called Aspiring Dragons focused on those Pokémon that gain a Dragon-typing when they evolve. Research Days are always a great chance to hunt some specific shiny Pokémon in the game. That is because shiny odds are boosted in Pokémon GO during a Research Day.

So, what shiny odds can you expect during a Research Day in Pokémon GO?

The Research Day shiny odds in Pokémon GO is 1/10. This only applies to the featured Pokémon appearing in Field Research and the Timed Research for the event. It does not apply to Wild Spawns.

This is a huge reduction from the standard odds of 1/512, and is better than events like GO Fest, GO Tour, Wild Area and Community Day. The shiny odds for a Pokémon GO Community Day are 1/25.

That makes Research Days one of the very best opportunities in the entire game to hunt specific shiny Pokémon. They are well worth getting out and playing during!

The key to hunting shiny Pokémon during a Research Day is all about maximising the number of Research Tasks you can encounter. You will need to complete these to work through the Timed Research you get during the event, as well as encountering an event Pokémon after every Research Task.

You can also stack Research Task encounters by running away. They will wait for you to encounter later, letting you quickly move onto the next Field Research. However, this will not work for the Timed Research so make sure you do catch those Pokémon.

Additionally, to get a head start, save up completed Field Research tasks before the event and don't claim them until the event starts at 2:00 p.m.
