Tapu Lele Pokémon GO Raid Guide: best counters, candy tips

Battle Tapu Lele with our raid guide.

Tapu Lele is back in Pokémon GO raids from March 21 - April 4. The generation seven legendary follows Tapu Koko, who was in raids earlier this month.

As well as returning to raids, Tapu Lele will have a new exclusive Charged Attack. Any existing Tapu Lele you have will only be able to learn this move via Elite TM.

The move is "Natures Madness." It's a Fairy-type move that hits hard, which will make Tapu Lele more relevant in the Fairy-type category. It's worth picking up a few Tapu Lele with this move to add to your Pokémon GO collection.

Best Tapu Lele counters in Pokémon GO:

Tapu Lele is a dual Psychic and Fairy-type. That gives it a double resistance to Dragon and Fighting-type Pokémon which can be very useful in raids.

In terms of Tapu Lele counters, the Pokémon is weak to Ghost, Poison and Steel-type Pokémon. That gives us a few good Pokémon to choose from.

Here are the best Tapu Lele counters in Pokémon GO:

Mega Gengar

Mega Banette

Metagross

Usefully, a lot of these Pokémon have been available in recent events. Both Dialga's, Hisuian Typhlosion and Origin Forme Giratina were all available during the Sinnoh Tour week.

Metagross' first evolution, Beldum, was also a common spawn only a couple of weeks ago too.

If you're worried about blasting through a Tapu Lele raid, there are some powerful Mega Pokémon you can use to take this powerful Pokémon down. Mega Gengar is a really good option for this raid.

Mega Evolutions to get you more Tapu Lele candy in Pokémon GO

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Fairy and Psychic-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

  • Alakazam
  • Slowbro
  • Gardevoir
  • Medicham
  • Altaria
  • Latias
  • Latios
  • Diancie

While none of these Mega Pokémon are good Tapu Lele counters, if you can get away with not having a Mega Pokémon in your raid team, you can benefit from that all important extra candy.

How many trainers do I need to beat Tapu Lele in Pokémon GO?

Tapu Lele isn't too hard of a Pokémon to take down. For higher level trainers, a group of three to four will be enough to win this raid. With good counters and Party Play, you might be able to win this raid as a duo as well.
