Stakataka Pokémon GO Raid Guide: Weakness, counters, 100% IV

Stakataka is making its long awaited Pokémon GO debut in five-star raids from May 23 to May 28. However, like most of the other Pokémon GO Ultra Beasts, Stakataka is region locked. However, instead of certain countries, Stakataka is Hemisphere locked.

Stakataka will be available to Trainers in the Eastern Hemisphere. Otherwise, you'll need a Remote Raid pass.

Sadly, it does not look like Stakataka will be one of the most powerful Pokémon the game has ever seen. However, this is a brand new Pokémon debut, so you'll want to try and do a raid for the Pokédex entry at least. Plus, there is 2x XP for winning Ultra Beast Raid Battles during the week.

Here is everything you need to take on Stakataka in Pokémon GO.

Stakataka has a 2x weakness to Fighting and Ground-type attacks, and a single weakness to Water-type attacks. It has a 3x Resistance to Poison-type attacks, a 2x Resistance to Flying and Normal-type attacks and then a host of other single resistances.

Sadly for Stakataka, having not one but two 2x weaknesses makes this an incredibly easy Raid to win. Here are the best Pokémon to use to take down Stakataka:

There are some really powerful Pokémon avaliable to trainers wanting to take on Stakataka. Primal Groudon is a really good choice, with very powerful Ground-type moves.

Of course, any of the Mega Pokémon are also good options in their non Primal/Mega forms.

In terms of availability, lots of the good Stakataka counters have been in Pokémon GO rotation recently. Groudon, Garchomp and Heracross all had recent Raid Day events. Excadrill spawns on and off, and Therian Landorus, Lucario and Mega Alakazam were all also in raids recently.

Just be aware that you'll need an Elite Fast TM to teach Counter to Mega Alakazam.

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Rock and Steel-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

With two 2x weaknesses, Stakataka is a pretty easy Pokémon to take down. Two trainers using Primal Groudon, with Party Power, may be able to take down this Raid together.

However, for a general rule of thumb, a group of three to four high level Trainers will be safe. For lower level Trainers or those without ideal counters, aim for six and above.

Snowy weather is probably unlikely for a lot of Trainers in the Eastern Hemisphere, so you'll want to keep an eye out for Partly Cloudy weather if you're chasing a boosted Stakataka in Pokémon GO.
