Get your team ready for the Catch Cup in Pokémon GO.
The Catch Cup is back in Pokémon GO PvP until August 23. The Catch Cup operates as the Great League (1500 max CP) with a unique additional restriction. That means that your usual Great League team might not apply.
The Pokémon GO Catch Cup only allows you to use Pokémon that you have caught this Season (since June 1st). No members of your team can have been caught during any prior seasons. That means that your usual Great League PvP team might not be eligible. However, if you're using Pokémon caught this season then you may not have to adjust your team at all.
So, what are some of the best Pokémon you can use to rack up victories in the Pokémon GO Fossil Cup?
What is the best team for the Pokémon GO Catch Cup?
It's hard to always say there is a one size fits all best team for any single Pokémon GO PvP Cup or League. After all, Pokémon GO PvP is all about counters, specific movesets and thinking outside the box to get one up on your opponent. So bear that in mind.
However, statistically the best team for the Pokémon GO Catch Cup is Carbink, Registeel and Shadow Gligar.
This team gives you a good range of type coverage, with these Pokémon having a range of moves in a range of categories. However, Carbink needs XL candy in order to reach the top end of the 1500 CP limit. While you might have a good PvP Carbink already, if that has not been caught this season it may not be worth investing in another one.

Pokémon GO Catch Cup: Solid Pokémon to use
If you want to try something a bit different, here are some of the other Pokémon that can fare very well in the Catch Cup:
Bastiodon Smack Down, Stone Edge, Flamethrower | Quagsire (Shadow) Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, Stone Edge | Skarmory Steel Wig, Brave Bird, Sky Attack | Lanturn Spark, Surf, Thunderbolt | Feraligatr (Shadow) Shadow Claw, Hydro Cannon, Ice Beam | Registeel Lock On, Focus Blast, Zap Cannon | Gligar Wing Attack, Aerial Ace, Dig | Mantine Wing Attack, Aerial Ace, Ice Beam | Swampert Mud Shot, Hydro Cannon, Earthquake | Clodsire Mud Shot, Earthquake, Stone Edge | Empoleon (Shadow or non Shadow) Steel Wing, Hydro Cannon, Drill Peck | Stunfisk (Galarian) Mud Shot, Rock Slide, Earthquake | Steelix Dragon Tail, Psychic Fangs, Crunch | Mandibuzz Snarl, Dark Pulse, Aerial Ace | Aurorus Powder Snow, Weather Ball (Ice), Meteor Beam |
A few other Pokémon that are good in the Catch Cup include common Pokémon like Swampert, Togededmaru and Pidgeot. Cresselia is also a good pick. You can get a Shadow Cresselia from Giovanni this season.
Be warned that while a few Shadow Pokémon are all very useful in the Catch Cup, Shadow Pokémon are more expensive to power up, and much harder to get optimised IV values for. For a temporary PvP Cup, it might not be worth the investment.
However, using any of those Pokémon will stand you in good stead for your battles in the Catch Cup. Good luck out there Trainers!
