Mega Mawile is finally coming back to Pokémon GO in Mega Raids. We last saw this Pokémon back in October 2024 when it debuted in a special Raid Day. You can encounter Mega Mawile in Raids from April 21 until May 1.

Mega Mawile is a strange proposition in Pokémon GO. It is a very useful Pokémon to have in your collection, but not because it is powerful. As a Raid attacker, Mega Mawile is, bluntly, terrible. However, when advanced to Level 3 Mega Pokémon provide candy, candy XL and XP bonuses for their respective typing. As a Fairy and Steel-type, Mega Mawile provides great coverage and no other Pokémon hit both of these typings.

That will be especially relevant ahead of Pokémon GO Fest 2025, with Mega Mawile providing a boost for catching both Zamazenta and Zacian in their new powerful forms. Get this Mega Pokémon to Mega Level 3 as fast as you can.

So, here is how you can beat Mega Mawile in Pokémon GO.

Best Mega Mawile counters in Pokémon GO:

Mega Mawile has a weakness to Fire and Ground-type attacks in Pokémon GO. It has a huge amount of resistances, including a 3x resistance to Dragon-types, a 2x resistance to Bug-types then further resistances to Dark, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic and Rock-type attacks.

So, with so many resistances, you'll want a laser focused team to take on Mega Mawile in Pokémon GO. Here are the current best counters to use.

Primal Groudon
Mud Shot & Precipice Blades
Mega Y Charizard
Fire Spin & Blast Burn
Mega Blaziken
Fire Spin & Blaze Kick
Mega Garchomp
Mud Shot & Earth Power
Reshiram
Fire Fang & Fusion Flare
Blacephalon
Incinerate & Mystical Fire
Groudon
Mud Shot & Precipice Blades
Therian Forme Landorus
Mud Shot & Sandsear Storm
Mega Swampert
Mud Shot & Earthquake
Heatran
Fire Spin & Magma Storm
Volcarona
Fire Spin & Overheat
Chandelure
Fire Spin & Overheat

Primal Groudon is the absolute best Pokémon to take on Mega Mawile with. It is a very powerful Pokémon that hits both of Mega Mawile's weaknesses. Then, some other powerful Pokémon are Legendaries we have seen in the game recently, which is helpful.

Blacephalon was just in Five-Star Raids, after making its shiny debut. This is a great option to use here. In addition, Reshiram is another top counter. We saw a lot of Reshiram back in February and early March thanks to the Unova Tour event in Pokémon GO. All Reshiram caught during this event had its powerful legacy move, Fusion Flare, which you need for it to be a top counter. Also in the Unova Tour event was Therian Forme Landorus which is also a great option.

Even Heatran, another strong counter, was in Raids at the end of March too. You could also use Shadow Heatran, if you saved one from Giovanni.

Overall, it should be pretty easy to get a strong team together to take on Mega Mawile with Legendary Pokémon you've caught recently.

Can Mawile be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes, Mawile can be shiny in Pokémon GO after your Raid. Unlike the Raid Day debut, it won't have boosted shiny odds.

Mega Evolutions to get you more Mawile candy in Pokémon GO

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Fairy and Steel-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

Here are the Pokémon you can use to get more Mawile candy after your Raid:

  • Steelix
  • Scizor
  • Aggron
  • Lucario
  • Gardevoir
  • Altaria
  • Diancie
  • Mawile

Sadly, none of these are good Mega Mawile counters in Pokémon GO.

How many trainers do I need to beat Mega Mawile in Pokémon GO?

Mega Mawile isn't too difficult to take down in Pokémon GO. You'll need at least three trainers to win this Raid. However, the faster you win your Raid the more Mega Energy you'll get. So, if you want to be safe, aim for six or more Trainers.
