Take down this Dragon Pokémon in its Mega Form and collect lots of Mega Energy!
If you’re struggling to power up your Dragonite or evolve that Hundo Dratini, Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos – Global is about to give you plenty of opportunities. The event will introduce new Megas, including Mega Dragonite, through a new raid type called Super Mega Raids.
As one of the first Mega Evolutions revealed in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it didn’t take long for Pokémon GO to introduce Mega Dragonite. Its arrival gives players another strong option for mega-evolving Dragon-types, especially when they’re looking to maximize Candy gains during Dragon-focused events.
However, due to last year’s Mega Rayquaza Raid Day and the fact that Dragonite has the same typing as Rayquaza, Mega Dragonite might not be that useful in battles since it gets outshined by lots of other Dragon and Flying types.
Mega Dragonite has a Max CP of 5452, an Attack of 299, a Defense of 255, and a Stamina of 209 HP. As a Dragon-type attacker, it is ranked at 10th, while due to having one Flying-type move, it lags in the Flying-type attacker rankings at 30th.
Despite its stats, Mega Dragonite, after all, is a Mega Form of a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, and defeating it in Super Mega Raids will be much tougher than any Regular Raids you’ve played before.
Here is everything you need to know about Mega Dragonite, including which Pokémon you should use against it.

How many Trainers do I need to beat a Super Mega Raid?

A Super Mega Raid is basically the harder version of the Standard Mega Raid; the featured Mega Pokémon will be significantly stronger, and it can produce shields that reduce the damage it takes.
If you and other Trainers in a Super Mega Raid don’t have a good party of top-tier counters, all of your Pokémon might get knocked out before you can even get the Mega Pokémon’s HP to zero.
Super Mega Raids may vary in the required number of Trainers to make them possible to beat, depending on how strong the Mega Pokémon will be. But for a Super Mega Dragonite Raid, the best number of participants would be at least 10.
Using a Mega Pokémon in a Super Mega Raid will allow you to break one of Mega Dragonite’s shields, so don’t forget to mega evolve a good counter Pokémon before joining one.
It’s also highly recommended to encourage other Trainers in the raid to do the same, as beating Dragonite with only a few Trainers using Mega Pokémon will be extremely tough.
Mega Dragonite comes equipped with 10 shields, and each Trainer can only break one. That means you’ll need at least 10 Trainers bringing Mega Pokémon to the raid if you want to clear every shield.
Mega Dragonite weaknesses and counters in Pokémon GO
Mega Dragonite is a Dragon/Flying type, so it’s weak to Ice, Dragon-, Fairy-, and Rock-type moves.
When it comes to resistances, Mega Dragonite takes reduced damage from Bug-, Fighting-, Fire-, Water-, Grass-, and Ground-type moves, with particularly strong resistance against Grass and Ground attacks.
Below are the best Pokémon that you can use to take advantage of Mega Dragonite’s weaknesses in Pokémon GO:
![]() White Kyurem Ice Fang & Ice Burn | ![]() Black Kyurem Dragon Tail and Freeze Shock | ![]() Shadow Mamoswine Powder Snow & Avalanche | ![]() Mega Rayquaza Dragon Tail & Breaking Swipe | ![]() Eternatus Dragon Tail & Dynamax Cannon | ![]() Mega Gardevoir Charm & Triple Axel | ![]() Mega Garchomp Dragon Tail & Breaking Swipe | ![]() Mega Abomasnow Powder Snow & Weather Ball | ![]() Shadow Mewtwo Psycho Cut & Ice Beam | ![]() Mamoswine Powder Snow & Avalanche |
With Mega Dragonite’s type combination, it takes the most increased damage from Ice-type moves, making Ice-type Pokémon the best choices to take on this raid.
Both Kyurem forms currently rank among the top Ice-type attackers in the game, so White Kyurem and Black Kyurem can deal heavy damage to Mega Dragonite with the right movesets.
If you don’t have any Ice-type legendaries, Mamoswine (both the regular and Shadow forms) is also an ideal choice for dealing damage to Dragonite.
You can use Dragon-type moves as well, but using a Dragon-type Pokémon means that Dragonite can hit back hard with the same type of moves.
Which Pokémon to mega evolve
Using a Dragon-type Pokémon makes Mega Dragonite retaliate with a super effective move. However, mega evolving a Dragon type can still be worth the risk, as it helps break one of Mega Dragonite’s shields while also boosting the Candy rewards you earn from the raid.
Here are the Pokémon that you can mega evolve for Candies during a Mega Dragonite Super Mega Raid in Pokémon GO:
- Pidgeot
- Pinsir
Pokemon that you can mega evolve and are also good counters:
- Charizard
- Aerodactyl
- Salamence
- Rayquaza
- Ampharos
- Sceptile
- Altaria
- Latias
- Latios
- Garchomp
What is Mega Dragonite’s Hundo CP in Pokémon GO?
After a Mega Raid, you’ll only encounter and catch a regular Dragonite. For non-boosted Super Mega Raids, a Hundo Dragonite will have 2167 CP, while during Windy weather, its Hundo CP will be raised to 2709 CP.
