Mega Aggron Pokémon GO Raid Guide: Weakness & Counters

Take on this powerful Steel-type Pokémon.

Mega Aggron is back in Pokémon GO raids from April 25 to May 2. Mega Aggron is one of the stronger Steel-type Raid Attackers in the game and is well worth picking up some Mega Energy for in Raids.

Normal Aggron is also a pretty good Rock-type attacker. So, even though Mega Aggron loses it's Rock-typing when in the Mega form, you'll still get an Aggron after the raid that can be useful in multiple different situations.

So, here is everything you need to know to take on Mega Aggron in Pokémon GO.

Best Mega Aggron counters in Pokémon GO:

Mega Aggron has a weakness to three types, Fire, Fighting and Ground. It has a huge amount of resistances, with 11 different types of attacks not being effective against it.

Thankfully Pokémon GO has lots of god Fire, Ground and Fighting-type Pokémon to choose from. This includes some powerful Mega Pokémon.

So, here are the best Mega Aggron counters in Pokémon GO:

Primal Groudon
Mud Shot & Precipice Blades
Mega Blaziken
Counter & Blast Burn
Mega Y Charizard
Fire Spin & Blast Burn
Mega Garchomp
Mud Shot & Earth Power
Mega Heracross
Counter & Close Combat
Reshiram
Fire Fang & Fusion Flare
Terrakion
Double Kick & Sacred Sword
Therian Forme Landorus
Mud Shot & Sandsear Storm
Keldeo
Low Kick & Scared Sword
Mega Alakazam
Counter & Focus Blast
Chandelure
Fire Spin & Overheat
Heatran
Fire Spin & Magma Storm

Lots of these Pokémon have been available in recent events and raids. Not all of these Pokémon are legendary either. Charmander is readily available in the Rediscover Kanto event and Mega Charizard was in Mega Raids recently.

Mega Heracross was also in Mega Raids, including a Raid Day, very recently too. So, it shouldn't be too hard to put together a team to take on Mega Aggron and exploit its weaknesses.

Mega Evolutions to get you more Aggron candy in Pokémon GO

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Steel types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

Here are the Pokémon you can Mega Evolve to get more Aggron candy in Pokémon GO:

  • Steelix
  • Aggron
  • Scizor

How many trainers do I need to beat Mega Aggron in Pokémon GO?

Mega Aggron is a manageable raid to take down. 2-3 higher level Trainers, especially with Party Play, should be enough to win this raid. For lower level trainers you will need a group of at least 5-6.

What is the Aggron Pokémon GO 100% IV?

Mega Aggron is a good Steel-type in Pokémon GO, and catching a 100% IV Aggron would be a good Pokémon to have in your collection.

Remember, when you take on a Mega Raid, you don't actually catch the Mega Pokémon at the end of the raid. You encounter the standard form of the Pokémon. So, here are the CP's to keep an eye out for to see if you have a 100% IV Aggron.

  • 1714 CP
  • 2143 CP
