Learn everything about Link Charges and the ways to collect them in Pokémon GO.

In line with all the events related to Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos, the game introduced a new resource called Link Charges, which will stay as a new currency for players wanting to join a Mega Raid.

Speaking of Mega Raids, Pokémon GO will also begin rolling out a new raid type called Super Mega Raids, featuring a Mega Pokémon that can generate shields to reduce the damage that it takes in battle.

In Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos – Global 2026, the first Mega Pokémon that Trainers can battle in Super Mega Raids are Mega Victreebel, Mega Malamar, and Mega Dragonite.

Like the standard Mega Raids, these Super Mega Raids may also require a specific amount of Link Charges. If you’re planning to participate in the upcoming Pokémon GO Tour Kalos event, here are the details that you need to know about Link Charges.

Link Charges are a new type of currency that players can acquire from various sources in the game and can be used to join Mega and Super Mega Raids.

For in-person Mega/Super Mega Raids, participants can join by spending their Link Charges instead of Premium Raid Passes. But for remote players, Link Charges will become a required resource in addition to Remote Raid Passes.

Link Charges are stored inside an item called the Link Holder, which can hold around 600 Link Charges. Joining standard Mega Raids consumes Link Charges, while Super Mega Raids will need 200.

You can farm Link Charges in different ways, both by spending PokéCoins (which can be purchased with real money) or by simply playing the game.

If you’re willing to spend some of your PokéCoins, you can buy Link Charges at the Shop right away. For 100 PokéCoins, you can have 200 Link Charges, which is just enough to join a Mega/Super Mega Raid, and 250 PokéCoins for 600 Link Charges.

On the other hand, you can get Link Charges for free from the following:

  • Rewards from completing Weekly Challenges, Research Tasks, or tasks from the GO Pass.
  • Gifts from Friends.

How does this currency affect the latest Mega Raid gameplay

At first glance, Link Charges may seem like just another resource players have to grind on top of everything else. However, because they can function as an alternative to Premium Raid Passes and can be earned without spending money, Link Charges are poised to make Mega Raids far more accessible for free-to-play players.

Players who regularly purchase Remote Raid Passes to tackle Mega and Super Mega Raids from home may not be thrilled about Link Charges. Still, Pokémon GO has always been designed around outdoor exploration, so this shift likely reflects the development team’s push to encourage more in-person raiding and community events.

Beyond that, Link Charges have no direct impact on raid battles themselves, and the rewards earned from raids joined with Link Charges are largely the same as those from Premium Raid Passes.
