Get your Mystery Box and catch Meltan in Pokémon GO.

The upcoming 8th Anniversary event in Pokémon GO will see Shiny Meltan avaliable from Mystery Boxes. But, what is a Mystery Box in Pokémon GO, how can you get one, and how do you catch Meltan?

We've got a full breakdown of how you can get a Mystery Box so you can take full advantage of this chance to get Shiny Meltan.

What is a Mystery Box in Pokémon GO?

A Mystery Box in Pokémon GO is an item that is obtained by connecting the game with Pokémon Home. When you open a Mystery Box, it activates a special in game event which will see Meltan spawn in high frequency around you for an hour.

This makes Mystery Boxes the best way to grab Meltan in 'GO, and therefore also the best way to get Melmetal. Melmetal is a very powerful Pokémon and is well worth adding to your collection. Being able to catch so many Meltan in an hour essentially functions like a mini Community Day.

How can you get a Mystery Box?

If you want to get a Mystery Box, you'll need to send a Pokémon to either Pokémon Lets Go, Pikachu!, Let's Go, Eevee! or to the Pokémon HOME app. Pokémon Home is the easiest way to do this, as it is free and avaliable on almost all mobile phones.

Here are a few simple steps to get a Mystery Box:

  • You'll need an account on Nintendo.com, so create one if you don't have one already.
  • Make sure you've downloaded Pokémon HOME onto your Mobile Device. Here are the links on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
  • Open Pokémon GO and head to the following, Pokéball menu -> Settings -> Connected Devices and Services -> Pokémon HOME then Sign in with your Nintendo account.
  • After doing this, you can send a Pokémon to Pokémon HOME.
  • Select any of your Pokémon and 'confirm Transport'. You can't get this Pokémon back so don't send over something you want to use in the game.
  • Then, open Pokémon HOME and receive your Pokémon.

Once you've done this, a Mystery Box will be waiting for you back in Pokémon GO. Simply activate that from your in-game Inventory.
