Black or White Kyurem – which fusion is better in Pokémon GO

The Unova Tour in Pokémon GO has brought both Kyurem Fusion forms to Pokémon GO at last. But, with both Black Kyurem and White Kyurem to choose from, which of them is better in Pokémon GO?

The Kyurem Fusion form directly uses the stats (and shiny status) of Kyurem, rather than the Reshiram or Zekrom you fuse with. That means if you get a high IV or shiny Kyurem, you need to choose carefully which form to Fuse it into.

Here is everything you need to know before choosing between Black or White Kyurem in Pokémon GO.

The short answer is both Kyurem Fusion forms are very good in Pokémon GO. However, Black Kyurem edges out White Kyurem, being the slightly better choice overall. Of course, ideally all Trainers will get a high IV of both Kyurem fusion forms in Pokémon GO.

Here are the two Kyurem Fusion forms put head to head.

Both of the Kyurem fusion forms have the same typing, and therefore they have the exact same resistances and weaknesses. That means that neither have the upper hand in this category.

Both of the Kyurem Fusion forms are very good in Pokémon GO PvP, specifically in the Master League. According to PvP Poke, the two Pokémon rank in the following in Master League:

So, all five of the Pokémon in this equation are very good and viable in Master League PvP. However, Black Kyurem has the upper hand. The only Pokémon better in Master League PvP is Zygarde. With that being a very hard Pokémon to grind candy for, and needing Zygarde cells to reach its best form for most Trainers Black Kyurem is the single best Master League option right now in Pokémon GO.

Any Kyurem, Reshiram or Zekrom you end up with during this Unova Tour period will also all be good in Pokémon GO PvP, as will White Kyurem.

Moving onto raids, both Fusion forms of Kyurem are good as Raid attackers in Pokémon GO. They are competitive in the Dragon and Ice-type categories.

Black Kyurem ranks best in the Dragon-type category, placing as the fourth best Dragon-type in the entire game. Importantly, it is the best non-mega Dragon type, better than Shadow Palkia, Origin Forme Palkia, Origin Forme Dialga and more.

As an Ice-type attacker, Black Kyurem is still strong. It ranks fifth overall, but is outshone by White Kyurem.

For White Kyurem, it is the opposite. It is better as an Ice-type attacker, ranking as the single best Ice-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Beating Shadow Mamoswine, which was the previous owner of that top spot.

As a Dragon-type, White Kyurem falls behind. This particular Kyurem fusion form cannot quite compete with the many good Dragon-type Pokémon in the game. It sits #15, which is still very respectable and ahead of Pokémon like Haxorus, Palkia and Garchomp.

Both Kyurem fusions have Adventure Effects in Pokémon GO. Black Kyurem has Freeze Shock, and White Kyurem has Ice Burn. These moves come with powerful Adventure Effects:

Both of these are very good Adventure Effects to have. They will be really powerful, especially when doing things like Shadow Raids. Ice Burn slightly outdoes Freeze Shock, as Trainers can learn to time their throws around Pokémon's attacks, but a slower ring is unbelievably helpful.

Ice Burn will be fantastic for those hunting Glarian Birds from their Daily Adventure Incense.

Despite having a slightly worse fusion form in Pokémon GO, overall Black Kyurem is the better choice in Pokémon GO. There isn't a great deal of difference between them, but from Raids to PvP Black Kyurem has a slight edge over the White version.

However, both Pokémon are excellent Raid Attackers and unbelievably powerful in PvP. Both the Adventure Effects are also very useful.

So, while Black Kyurem is better, you absolutely want both versions of Kyurem in Pokémon GO. So, get out there during the Unova Tour to get the Fusion Energy you need to grab both versions of Kyurem.
