Articuno Pokémon GO Raid Guide: Weakness and counters

Articuno is back in Pokémon GO Raids from July 15 until July 23. The Ice and Flying-type bird Pokémon is one of the games most iconic Legendaries. Articuno is the mascot for Team Mystic, and is a very popular Pokémon.

Sadly, it is not a fantastically strong Pokémon. This is in part down to a pretty weak set of moves that don't really pack any sort of punch.

However, as well as the usual Stardust and XP Raid rewards, this is a good chance to grab one of the mascots of Pokémon GO.

Articuno has a weakness to Electric, Fire and Steel-type moves. It also has a double weakness to Rock-type moves.

While there aren't a lot of super powerful Rock-type Pokémon in the game, there are plenty of Electric, Fire and Steel-types to bolster your team.

Naturally, this list of Articuno counters is littered with Rock-type Pokémon. An interesting inclusion on the list is the brand new Dusk Mane Necrozma. If you played Pokémon GO Fest Global and got enough Solar Fusion Energy you can fuse Solgaleo and Necrozma together to get this powerful Pokémon.

This is a great chance to see that Pokémon in action, so include it in your team to take on Articuno.

Additionally, Mega Rayquaza is a good choice if you have Ancient Power on it. As you'll need Dragon Ascent to Mega Evolve Rayquaza, you'll have to have a second move in order to have Ancient Power on this Pokémon, so be warned.

Yes, Articuno can be shiny in Pokémon GO. That makes this a great chance to grab a Shiny Articuno in game. While the shiny is not that striking, it is a nice shade of pale blue.

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Ice and Flying-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

Like all Pokémon in Pokémon GO with a 2x weakness, Articuno is manageable to take down. For higher level Trainers with good Rock-type counters, you can complete this Raid with a party of two Trainers.

For lower level Trainers and those who don't have the best counters, aiming for a group of four Trainers will make sure you safely complete this Raid.
