Rip your opponent’s Active Pokémon into shreds with Solgaleo ex’s Sol Breaker.
Sound the roar of victory using this competitive Solgaleo ex deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket! Unlike most decks that dominate the current meta in the game, Solgaleo ex deck doesn’t require any complicated mechanics to win games. Once it's ready from the Bench, you can just trigger its ability so you can use it right away without paying your Active Pokémon’s retreat cost.
As a Stage 2 Pokémon, Solgaleo ex isn’t an Energy-hungry card. With just a couple of Metal Energy, its Sol Breaker can deal as much as 120 damage with a cost of 10 recoil damage.
While the recoil damage sounds like a significant nerf to this Alolan Legendary, there’s another card that kind of makes Solgaleo ex a viable choice for ranked matches: Rare Candy from Celestial Guardians.
We'’ll're sharing a Solgaleo ex deck build that you can try and tweak based on your playstyle and current card collection.
Solgaleo ex deck build: Anti-Oricorio variant
This build is designed with a contingency strategy against those that utilize Oricorio in PvP.
We all know that the yellow bird turns any Pokémon ex into meat shields, so among all the possible cards that could be paired with Solgaleo, Excadrill stands out as the safest option to counter Oricorio.

How to play the Solgaleo ex deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket
Due to the widespread use of Guzma, this deck is designed to not rely on any Item card. Feel free to replace Excadrill with other cards like Magearna or Drampa, but we think Excadrill can do the job best when dealing with an Oricorio, as it can survive the bird’s Zzzap! move in two turns.
Your main objective is to play Drillbur as your Active Pokémon and develop it into an Excadrill to give some early pressure to your opponent. While doing that, you should also aim to set up at least one Cosmog on your Bench and have it evolve into Solgaleo ex instantly with the help of Rare Candy.
It’s ideal to set up two Solgaleo ex so you can switch them with each other anytime you want, especially if you want to save your wounded Active Solgaleo ex without paying its retreat cost.
Once you get a Solgaleo ex ready from the Bench, use its ability and let it wreak havoc until you get 3 Knock Outs. If your opponent uses an Oricorio, have your Excadrill back so you can deal with it.
Other notable cards in Solgaleo ex deck
Cyrus, Guzma, and Sabrina are the Supporters that you can rely on once you’re successful in drawing a Rare Candy for an early Solgaleo ex setup. Your opponent will likely feel the pressure, which may force them to retreat their Active Pokémon or keep their main cards on the Bench.
Strengths
This deck can dominate ranked matches, especially if you manage to get your Solgaleo ex to the field right away. It should be able to keep Oricorio users at bay, thanks to Excadrill.
Solgaleo ex may also stand out in the future once some Fairy-type Pokémon join the meta.
Weakness
Your opponent will try to target your Bench, as they won’t easily let you develop your squishy Cosmog. Watch out for sniper Pokémon, such as Greninja, Garchomp ex, or Wugtrio ex.
You basically lose the game when your Cosmog gets Knocked Out or if you're unfortunate enough to have your Solgaleo ex cards at the bottom of your deck.
